Announcement   Welcome to Woody 6 Switch's Gamers Geekery Shop!

I have been a video game fan ever since I was a little goomba. The Atari 2600 was my first gaming system. The Atari is truly a thing of beauty. The very first generation Atari 2600's were built in Sunnyvale, California, USA and they were built like army tanks with a solid metal chassis protecting the 8-bit mother board, 1/2 inch plastic outer casing, wood trim and 6 aluminum switches (often called a "heavy sixer" or a "woody 6 switch"). These consoles were often centerpieces of living rooms and they certainly reflect the the style and values of the era. This kind of construction reminds us of a time when things were built to last.

When I build anything for my shop I always keep the Atari 2600's construction ideal in my mind and it comes through in all my pieces. Built with care and built to withstand the test of time.

What I like most about Atari is that you use your imagination when playing it. Modern games are fun too but Atari will always have a place in my heart and my living room.

Thanks for looking!

Please don't hesitate to contact me with any questions.

About

Video game geekery, art, and more!

I am an avid old school gamer who spent many hours as a child playing the Atari 2600. When I wasn’t grasping that joystick with one orange button I would have my hands filled with pencils and drawing paper doodling and coloring. I always knew I wanted to combine these two things I loved the most: art and video games.

With this idea always brewing in my head I eventually became a high school art teacher and repaired vintage video games on the side. When I could not fix something instead of throwing it out I turned it into something new and usable. My very first upcycle was turning a broken NES console into a lunch box. I started having more fun playing with the broken stuff rather than the working stuff. I had so much fun, in fact, that I decided to quit my teaching job to pursue my realized dream of working with video games and art full time.

I’m constantly stretching my imagination to come up with new and innovated ideas for recycling video game peripherals. To me a pile of broken video game equipment is not trash but rather a pile of possibilities. It’s a new medium that has vast applications in the modern era. I’m keeping these pieces out of landfills and curating small bits of video game history at the same time.

I use almost any gaming system you can think of including: Nintendo NES, Super Nintendo, N64, Nintendo GameCube, Nintendo Wii and Wii U, Playstation 1, PS2, PS3, PS4, Xbox, Xbox 360, Xbox One, Atari 2600, Sega Genesis, Sega Dreamcast and others.

Let me know if you need any further information, I am happy to answer any questions you may have.

Additional policies and FAQs
FAQs:
Q: Why did you destroy all of these perfectly working video games, are you some kind of crazy person?
A: I only use non working video game parts in my creations. If I get a hold of something that works or if I can fix it easily then I will not make art out of it. The crazy part is debatable.

Q: What types of gaming systems/controllers do you use?
A: Nintendo NES, Super Nintendo, N64, Nintendo GameCube, Nintendo Wii and Wii U, Playstation 1, PS2, PS3, PS4, Xbox, Xbox 360, Xbox One, Atari 2600, Sega Genesis, Sega Dreamcast and others. Let me know if you want me to use a system or controllers not mentioned here, I can most likely find it.

Q: Where do you get all of the video games?
A: Rummage sales, auctions, and video game stores who want to get rid of their broken stuff.
