I am thrilled with my beautiful Pashmina. The lovely lady made it specially for me in record time as I needed it for a family wedding. I am so grateful and will definitely keep my eye on her designs for future purchases.

A really unusual and lovely scarf - I wore it for the first time today and have had so many nice comments. A very satisfied customer once again!

About

Handmade accessories inspired by nature.

I have always enjoyed making things and painting things. Then my eldest daughter got me interested in making jewellery, and my younger daughter did jewellery design at university in Birmingham. My neices got me interested in felting and I've always been interested in nature conservation so nature naturally is a strong influence on anything I do. My younger daughter and I decided to set up this etsy shop mainly to sell the felted accessories but some jewellery too. "Woolderness" as a name seemed to reflect the influence of nature on our work as well as the fact that a lot of it is made from wool. We live in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty called the Chilterns in Oxfordshire, England. There are beautiful beech woods with swathes of bluebells flowering in Spring and bio-diverse chalk downlands with heavenly scented wild thyme and otherworldly yew woodland as well as farmland, hills, and hedges and scrub. A diverse range of influences indeed. We decided that one of my favourite poems sums us up:

What is this life if full of care,
We have no time to stand and stare?

No time to stand beneath the boughs
And stare as long as sheep or cows:

No time to see, when woods we pass,
Where squirrels hide their nuts in grass:

No time to see, in broad daylight,
Streams full of stars, like skies at night:

No time to turn at Beauty's glance,
And watch her feet, how they can dance:

No time to wait till her mouth can
Enrich that smile her eyes began:

A poor life this if, full of care,
We have no time to stand and stare.

Items in Woolderness were all made by either by myself or by my daughter Clara. We both love the environment of the Chilterns countryside and our wool products take inspriation from this beautiful area using natural materials.
