About

Family Journeys from Clueless Beginners to Experienced Shepherds

I began raising Gulf Coast Native sheep with my daughters in 2008. Other than my preliminary research, we knew nothing about sheep when we began, but we learned quickly. In addition to learning how to care for our sheep to keep them healthy and happy, we've also learned to shear; to wash and process raw wool; and to spin yarn on a spinning wheel. We share the sheep at the Louisiana Renaissance Festival, libraries and local church groups, teaching the public about sheep and fiber processing.

We continue to learn from other, more experienced shepherds; other hand-spinners; fiber processing experts; our own on-going research; & personal, first hand experience. We have been sharing this journey as a family throughout my daughters' growing-up years, and continue to learn and work together.

Our new, developing shearing business, "Gently Shorn", sometimes supplies us with a variety of wool from sheep we don't raise here on our farm. This is also Louisiana wool, (sometimes Mississippi), and all sales help provide for our flock of critically endangered sheep.
