My love of Hebrew letters
Nací en Jerusalén y crecí en las afueras de Tel Aviv cuando había campos de flores silvestres, árboles frutales y sabras en los lugares donde hoy se encuentran los edificios altos y los barrios. Boaz y sus amigos jugaban a juegos infantiles con semillas de albaricoque y recogían las espinas de las sabras en sus manos mientras recogían la fruta para venderla en el barrio. Como muchos de mi generación, me influyó una profunda conexión con la tierra, los diversos grupos de inmigrantes que llegaron en masa a Israel en los primeros años de la condición de Estado y la belleza del idioma hebreo. Después de servir en la fuerza aérea israelí durante 4 años, me mudé a los Estados Unidos para estudiar arte y diseño gráfico. Me influyeron los fuertes movimientos artísticos de Israel y de Nueva York. Durante los últimos 30 años, viví tanto en Israel como en los Estados Unidos.
"Aunque he vivido en Estados Unidos durante muchos años, he seguido sintiendo pasión y una conexión profunda con Israel. He sacado a relucir mi "voz artística" creando obras de arte que utilizan letras y palabras hebreas. Las letras hebreas transmiten historias propias y las palabras que forman inspiran imágenes que evocan nuevas conexiones. Busco crear productos audaces pero extravagantes inspirados en el hebreo que transmitan una sensación de descubrimiento activo al espectador".
I was born in Jerusalem and grew up outside of Tel Aviv when there were fields of wild flowers, fruit trees and sabras in the places where high rises and neighborhoods stand today. Boaz and his friends would play children's games with apricot seeds and collect the prickles of sabras in their hands as they collected the fruit to sell in the neighborhood. Like many of my generation, I was influenced by a deep connection to the land, the varied immigrant groups that flocked to Israel in the early years of Statehood and the beauty of the Hebrew language. After serving in the Israeli air force for 4 years, I relocated to the United States to study art and graphic design. I was influenced by the strong artistic movements of Israel as well as New York. During the past 30 years, I lived in both Israel and the the USA.
"Although I have lived in the United States for many years, I have remained passionate and connected to Israel in a deep and profound way. I have brought out my “artistic voice” by creating artwork that uses Hebrew letters and words. Hebrew letters carry stories of their own and the words they form inspire images that conjure new connections. I seek to create bold yet whimsical Hebrew-inspired products that bring a sense of active discovery to the viewer."
