About

The Gift of Art

How do you explain something you don't understand yourself?

I relocated to Maryland's Lower Eastern Shore for a job, and in the process moved from New York City to Salisbury, MD.

The Big Apple is not a place conducive to self-discovery. There is too much stress, too many aspects of life such as family and work. Someone once described living in New York City as people "trying to do too many things, in too short a time, in too small a place."

In the Big Apple I worked in marketing communications management, creating annual reports, newsletters, ads, direct mail and the like. When I needed an artist or designer, I called one. I certainly wasn't on that list.

Also one job I had was working for The Jewish Museum. There, and in frequent visits to other museums and galleries I encountered the world's greatest historical and contemporary artists. With van Gogh and Jackson Pollock and Monet as your benchmarks the idea that I could create art was inconceivable.

Then when I moved to Salisbury I discovered tranquilty and open space. The great artists still exist, but I don't encounter them nearly as often. So, magically my artist seed was able to germinate, and when it flowered it took me completely by surprise. My friends and family were just as amazed, thinking I had hidden something from them. Now, some people in Salisbury identify me as an artist and my brain still can't quite grasp that.

I was fortunate enough to have a Cinderella experience. About 10 months after art began to flow out of me I entered my first ever group exhibition. My entry took the First Place ribbon. Since then, art has become a 24/7 activity and I feel the exhilaration of a surfer riding a great wave.

On Etsy I am able to share what I create with men and women who appreciate what I am doing and want to bring the images I have created into their lives. Making my art available in this shop is one part of the magic carpet ride I am enjoying since my art gene switched on at the age of 62.
