For Homebodies and Adventurous Souls
{Hello}
Welcome to WormeWoole ("Warm Wool") by Sara Orme. Eco chic, upcycled accessories for family, friends, pets, and home are what it's all about. Created and collected in northern Wisconsin where we wear wool year-round. I'm so glad you came to visit!
{About}
I have been making and selling things since grade school, when I sold a macrame plant hanger to a neighbor and subsequently was grounded for hawking my wares door-to-door (I blame my cousin -- it was her idea). Thus began my career.
I have sold my creations at craft fairs and gift shops here in Wisconsin and across the ocean in my former home, the Big Island of Hawaii, ever since.
It's great to make money doing something you enjoy, but more than the dollars, I love that someone would see something I made and think, "That's really great...I want to own that, or give it to someone I love." What a self-esteem boost.
I also drive "Mom's Taxi" all over the county and across state lines and enjoy music, reading, blogging and gardening in my spare time.
{WormeWoole FAQ}
1. Are WormeWoole's items actually made from sweaters?
Yes, I felt cast-off wool and cashmere sweaters and then cut and sew them into mittens, other accessories, and items for your home. (I felt guilty about shrinking those expensive sweaters for the first 5 wash loads, and then I got over it.)
2. Do you knit the sweaters you use in your designs?
No, but I do knit all of the adventure beanies.
3. How are WormeWoole's items eco-friendly?
Wool is a natural and renewable resource and all the sweaters used in WormeWoole creations have been rescued from the back of someone's closet, a thrift store, or being tossed in the landfill. Many have holes and would otherwise unusable if they were not given a second life as something else. The hand warmers and coffee cozies are reusable and made from scraps that are too small for other projects (again saving those scraps from being discarded) and replacing similar throw-away items.
4. Are WormeWoole items washable?
Yes, but please use either a gentle wash in cold water or do it by hand. Roll in a towel to remove excess water. Reshape with hands and lay flat to dry. Do not wring or put in the dryer. Dry cleaning is okay too. All WormeWoole wearables come with a care instruction card.
5. Do you make mittens in larger or smaller sizes or custom colors?
Yes, I can make mittens custom sized for you, or in custom colors if I have the colors available. School or team colors make great gifts for teens or super-fans. Just send me a convo.
