In unison with the environment

Kaliko is a line of textiles for the body and home, founded by Ania Grzeszek.

We use certified organic fibers that we hand dye using local plant pigments
in our Berlin studio. Due to the nature of our dyeing and printing process, all pieces are unique - each one slightly different from the other, yet all equally beautiful.

In addition to botanically dyed textiles, Ania also offers one-of-a-kind, handwoven wall hangings and pouches.

Natural fabrics:
At Kaliko, we use natural fabrics only. Our organic cotton is GOTS certified and fulfils both environmental and social criteria. The linen that we source in Poland is all natural and unbleached. Wool we use comes from local German sheep.

Natural dyes:
Beautiful colours can be achieved without importing dyes from overseas. Kaliko products are dyed with local plants, collected in Berlin's parks. Because our business depends on nature, available colours change together with seasons.

Dyeing process:
Botanical dyeing is a slow and often unpredictable process, which makes it so exciting. It takes several hours to several days to extract the pigments from plants. After the dye bath is ready, fabric or yarn is added to the pot. It is simmerring for few hours and then left to steep overnight.

Weaving:
Our woven goods are carefully handwoven by Ania on a vintage floor loom. Preparing the loom takes up to few days. Every single stroke of yarn is done by hand.

Printing:
All fabrics are hand printed in our Berlin studio. Because of nature of hand dyeing and stamping process, all pieces are unique, each one slightly different from another.

Sewing:
We want to support other small business and integration-oriented workshops. We are working with a Berlin-based social enterprise (Spektrum NetzWerk), who are helping us with the orders, as well as with a small local sewing studio.

Finishing:
Adding strings, tassels, stamping logos... Every product is made from start to finish by hand. This way we can be sure that we are offering only the best quality.

We work carefully, slowly, with intention.
