About

It All Started With an Afghan

Many years ago a friend of mine was doing craft shows. She worked in Waverly fabrics and asked if I would do an afghan to compliment her work at the shows. I made one, she took it to a show and it sold.

That was the beginning. I made more afghans. Then I made some baby blankets. We did one or two shows a month. It was fun and I made a little extra money.

Then one day she said, "You work in yarn for afghans. Why can't you make doilies too?" Remember, I was matching Waverly fabric colors and, in those days, thread didn't really come in popular colors so... I made my first doily, dyed it to match the Waverly colors, and figured out how to block it.

My colored doilies were a huge success. Thankfully, it wasn't too long afterwards that crochet thread came out in forest green, burgundy, and dusty rose - the colors of the time.

We happily did our craft shows for several years until our children reached the age of involvement. Our time was needed to chauffer and attend events/games. The shows had to stop.

Life can be wonderful because it was about this time that we were approached by a woman who had a shop in Wisconsin. She asked if we would be interested in selling our work in her shop. This was a perfect solution for several more years. Then she decided to sell the shop and retire.

I brought my work home and it sat protected in plastic bins for a year or so. I stopped knitting/crocheting for the most part and felt at loose ends. Then my daughter asked me why I didn't sell online? Voila! The next chapter.

I love to both knit and crochet. This is my outlet from the stress of my full-time job and life in general. I'm thankful every day that I'm able to do this and hope you enjoy what I produce.

My grandmother taught me to knit when I was 7 years old. Like most children that age, I thought it took too long to knit so taught myself how to crochet as well. I can't draw a straight line with a ruler so this is my art and I love it.
