Announcement   If you're looking for handmade items, rather than mass-produced items from a factory overseas somewhere, you're in the right place. Every item Yarnettes offers is handmade by me. I have items for the entire family, from baby to grandparents, even great grandparents.

I'm always working on restocking sold out items, but if there's something you'd like and I haven't gotten it restocked, feel free to contact me & I'll make one just for you.

What started out as just a crochet & knit shop has morphed into so much more!
Not only will you find an assortment of fun & practical crochet and knit items, you'll also find fandom items for TV shows and movies (a certain long-cancelled space western that can't be named, Doctor Who, MST3K, Harry Potter) done in a variety of materials.

If you see something you'd like in a different color, or a different size, contact me and if possible I'll make it to your specifications. Same goes for fandom items, just let me know what you want.

Check back often, because you never know what you'll find here!

About

My Etsy adventure

After failing to learn how to crochet when my mother tried to teach me when I was a child, I taught myself about 10 or 12 years ago when I was well in to my 50s. At first I made dishcloths, as just about every newbie does, then I went on to hats, scarves, and a few afghans. That 1st Christmas after I learned everyone on my Christmas list got either a hat or a scarf. I have a feeling most of them wound up in the back of a closet, or buried in a drawer. I tried to learn to knit, but gave up quickly.

Then, my daughter Michelle decided she would learn to crochet also. Once she did, she then went on to learn to knit. With her help I finally learned the basics.
Soon, our small house was becoming overrun with knit & crochet items, even though we were donating a lot of what we made. But we wanted to make more than just the kind of items you can donate.

I started researching to see if there was someplace to sell them online. That's when I found out about Etsy. I opened our shop in March of 2012, and we had our 1st sale within a month. You should have seen my happy dance! I still remember that it was a mesh market/beach bag.

Michelle said we should make some Jayne hats from the show Firefly and I said "Nah, nobody will want one of those." Boy, was I wrong!
Then I started making Harry Potter golf club covers about 4 years ago, and have been amazed at how popular they are, also.

Every thing was going great until July, 2013 when Michelle was diagnosed with rectal cancer. She tried to continue knitting & crocheting, but the pain made it pretty much impossible. November 2014 I not only lost my youngest child, I also lost my co-creator & business partner.

But, I'm still going strong on my own. And 2016 is the year I'm going to improve my knitting skills, and be more adventurous in what I attempt to knit. As well as finish at least some of my numerous WIPs (work in progress) that have been languishing everywhere.

I still make hats & scarves to donate to homeless shelters, and chemo hats & shawls for the hospital where Michelle was treated, and hats & toys for the local Children's hospital.

I'm a 60 something 5-time great grandmother living in the beautiful state of Colorado. I love Harry Potter & Firefly/Serenity and offer items specific to them, as well as a few other fandoms.
