Yema hand-silk-screens wares for you and your home

I founded Yema Textiles a few years after finishing school; starting to silk screen at home and washing the screens in the patio. After a while, I moved to a shared studio space where I still maintain a piece by piece, small run process.
Each print design is developed through visual experimentations to come up with fresh organic-geometric patterns. I work a lot on the computer to get precision in spacing and measurements when I'm designing, although I often envision ideas in my head beforehand.
I decided to focus on home-wares when I noticed the lack of supply of hand-made, independently designed, modern products for the home in Mexico. I mix traditional silkscreening with contemporary processes and eco-friendly inks to embellish fabric and paper surfaces that become finished products.
The process begins with choosing a fabric, mostly cotton or linen, washing and drying it, cutting each piece and ironing it. Then each piece is silk-screened in the shop, let dry and baked in a textile oven to properly fix the ink. The next step is sewing, washing, drying and ironing once again to arrive at the finished product.
It's great to see smiles on customer's faces and know that people value the time and work behind what they're taking home!
