Art is always the answer

Hi I'm Jane, the creator of Your Threads! I am an artist who loves to experiment with any medium that piques my interest whether that be graphic design, painting, screen-printing, pottery and more. I also taught Art for 9 amazing years and had so much fun teaching my students and being a part of their creative lives.

Three years ago I took a screen-printing class at Lillstreet Art Center in Chicago. I was curious about the medium and in the class I learned how to burn screens and print images onto fabric. Learning about screen-printing opened my mind to this new medium and in doing so created different creative pathways in my brain that were new to me. Thinking about art in a digital way was something I had never experimented with before.

During this time, I would hop online and read artist and art teacher posts on instagram, facebook and also watching facebook lives. I noticed that many of the conversations led to "where did you get that art shirt that you're wearing?" I came across this conversation at least once a week. After I noticed this pattern, the idea was born that I would develop a line of t-shirts for artists to wear. As soon as I decided to take on this adventure, I wrote down and sketched about 150 ideas in a notebook. I was excited for artists and art teachers to represent themselves as artists wearing my designs.

With the support and knowledge from my technology gifted fiance, we bought an ipad, apple pencil and downloaded the Procreate app right away. Watching Youtube videos helped me learn my way around the app and then I was off creating designs that I had sketched. This was the first time I had dabbled in graphic design and I was gung ho about it.

After creating several designs, I knew I also wanted to create a community where artists can come to appreciate and be inspired by other artists around the world. If you haven't yet, please join the Your Threads art community on ig and fb @yourthreads and be inspired by featured artists, their artwork and in depth interviews about their artistic lives.

Choosing a brand name for my business developed easily. Your Threads represents artists in three ways; the idea was founded by reading your threads on social media, the threads you weave throughout every artist's life and the physical shirt you wear is woven with threads and represents who you are.

The Your Threads community is open to all creatives, please join our community, I look forward to seeing you there! Jane
