I've never seen watercolor painting look so realistic, soft and warm all at the same time. My husband cried when he saw the painting of him and his granddaughter. He said he wanted to put a chain on it and wear it every day. Such excellent work. Will most definitely be asking for more paintings in the future. Thank you for brightening our day.

Connecting to the Child Within
Shop Home: Zehland.Etsy.com
I was thinking about where all this came from. Because of course it all came from somewhere. "Why do I create illustrations of baby chicks?" I ask, besides the fact that they're cute.
My grandmother raised chickens, maybe that's it. Both grandmothers did, one in the city, the other in the country. As a child, I liked the country: the fields, the streams and the wide open spaces - I still do. I loved my grandmother. And she raised chickens.
I remember making up stories and illustrating them when I was a kid for my youngest sister - 8 years younger than me. I should have known, I suppose, but I never did know how much I love making up stories and illustrating them until I started doing it again - many years after the childhood ones.
Zehland is all about stories. It's inspired by where I live and what I love; the characters inspired by my siblings, my children and my childhood friends. It's a state of mind; a place to connect with that which is most precious and vulnerable, most adorable and eager, most playful and innocent: the child within.
To make Zehland prints I use a print lab especially selected by me for the high quality and durability of both the colors and the paper or canvas on which my images are printed. Acid-free materials and permanent inks ensure that the colors will stay true for many decades!

Frequently asked questions
What is the difference between a watercolor and an oil painting?
*A WATERCOLOR is painted on heavyweight paper. Because of this, it requires a mat and frame with glass front. Framing finishes a watercolor beautifully and makes the entire art piece larger.
*AN OIL PAINTING is painted on canvas that is stretched onto wood stretcher bars. I paint the side edges of the canvas so you don't need to frame it unless you wish to. Oils take one to two weeks to dry. To save time, I ship the painting before completely dry by fixing it into a special box which protects it. You will need to keep it in the box for a week or so until dry to the touch. At that time, you may hang it with the enclosed wire.
Materials used for creating my art
To keep your artwork fresh and new for many generations, I use acid-free materials and professional permanent colors for my original paintings. Prints are made at a professional lab using the highest quality archival inks and papers. You can be confident that your investment will bring you a lifetime of satisfaction.
Keep your watercolor painting or print on paper new by enclosing in an acid-free mat and backing before framing with a glass front. Oil paintings may be varnished with spray varnish made specifically for oil paintings found at arts and crafts stores. Varnishing is optional, but it adds a layer of protection to keep the painting clean and can make the colors look richer.
*For new oil paintings, wait at least 6 months for the oils to fully cure before varnishing. However, the painting may be hung and/or framed as soon as it is dry to the touch.
