■■■What is so special compared to other iPad cases?■■■
1.One of a kind
No molds or machines are used, all our designs are hand drawn, and their location on the material is different for every product. For this reason, every product is “one of a kind, a bag just for you“.

2.Using high quality silk woven in Tango, Kyoto, Japan
We use material from Otsuka, a company established in the second year of the Kyoho era (1717).
By using high quality materials, we are able to realize a very high quality color palette.
For its use as a bag, we consider how it will feel against your skin in choosing the best materials.

3.Modern gold leaf
We add gold leaf accents to the bag’s design.
Gold leaf is, as the name implies, “painting with gold”. In order to bring out more vivid colors in Tegaki(hand drawn) Kyo-Yuzen, we use gold and silver foil, and metal powder in our production process.
If the bag is too flashy, the colors we have worked so hard to create will be ruined. So, to create a well balanced gold foil image the sense of a skilled craftsman is needed.

4.A Relaxing Color Palette
In Tegaki(hand drawn) Kyo-Yuzen, it is relatively easy to bring out bright colors, but to bring out colors of true depth the intuition and techniques of years of experience are necessary.
To create subtle differences in color, dye is added drop by drop, to finally create depth of color.

5.Soft cow leather straps
We hold a high standard for not only our bag’s materials, colors, and production, but also in the leather we use.
Our high quality domestic cow leather can be used for a long time, bringing out that special feel of real leather.

■■■What is "Kyo-Yuzen"?■■■

It is the traditional style of dyeing and designing kimono in Kyoto, is known as a team endeavor that can be pursued by different kinds of craftsmen process by process.
This is how me make products by hand. It is roughly divided into 13 processes

■■■What's going on with "Kyo-Yuzen" now?■■■
"Kyo-Yuzen" is one of the most historical dyeing and drawing techniques in Japan.
However, with the modernization, now Japanese people don't wear something made with "Kyo-Yuzen"(especially Kimono) except for the very special days such as wedding, coming-of-age ceremony or graduation.
So the market of "Kyo-Yuzen" is much smaller especially in the last 20 years.

And the age of the artisans is also getting older and older because young people tend to avoid to be a "Kyo-Yuzen" artisan who is not being able to get a lot of money.
As the result, something made with "Kyo-Yuzen" method has been very rare recently.

About

Make each item with over 10 craftsmen in Kyoto, Japan

■How I start
After I graduated from college with a diploma in Applied Commercial Web Development, I worked as a web designer for a couple years in Japan and Canada.

When I was working in Tokyo in 2010, my father phoned me and he said he got sick so he needed a help. I was really surprised that he talked to me about his own business and needed to work together rather than that he got sick. It’s because he had never talked that he wanted me to take over or help it. He always said “do whatever you want”. So right after I heard that, I quit a job and came back to Kyoto.

■Literally, the only one in the world
Our products are not mass-produced. Each and every one of them is handmade, and even if the design may be the same, there are no two equal pieces.

You may not notice when just glancing over, but since we use a whole roll of the white fabric typically used to make kimonos, and there is a crest (woven pattern) in the fabric, the pattern always falls in a different place, and the position of lines may vary too, from being slightly inward to outward. These same lines could be done perfectly if we used a machine, but having them handmade gives the final result a good “human touch“.

This same concept is one of the charms of Tegaki(hand drawn) Kyo-Yuzen dyeing technique.
