Antique Animal Stamps in Grandparents' Basement Start Jewelry Business

When Christine Busch Lyons was still in college she found some old circus animal stamps in her grandparents' basement one summer afternoon. As an art major with a specialty in metal work she found the stamps inspiring and used them in her work. Fast forward to the early 1980's and Christine and her husband Glenn decided to make a line of jewelry based on the old stamps and call it "Zirkus." Since the stamps were found in her grandfather Busch's basement and were of circus animals, the name made sense. There was a Zirkus Busch in Germany.
Zirkus jewelry was sold all over the United States from 1984 to 2003 to boutiques, museum shops and zoo shops. It was all designed and made in Port Townsend, Washington by Cris and Glenn.
In 2003 Cris and Glenn decided to try the retail side of the equation and bought a shop in Port Townsend which they still own. In 2013 they started thinking of bringing Zirkus back, but at more affordable prices. Their decision was reinforced by a series of phone calls out of the blue by different people asking if Zirkus jewelry was still in business! It seemed like some kind of a nudge from the universe.
So here we are with our Etsy store, Zirkus2. We hope you'll enjoy it! We are thinking of new designs all of the time, so keep looking!
