I got engaged...
My partner of six years and I were engaged... hooray! And so the journey of planning a wedding began.
First cab-off-the-rank, invitations. But everything I found was... to be honest... tacky, generic, gaudy and just not indicative of my fiancee, myself or our taste. What to do...? I bought a few stamps, a few cards and began to play around with making them myself. If you are a fellow crafter I am sure you can guess what happened next. I was HOOKED! Well I thought I was hooked until I discovered Etsy and THEN I was HOOKED! I fell totally in love with making beautiful cards and invitations using hand-carved rubber stamps, designer or recycled paper stocks, brightly colored or beautifully muted pastel inks... the options were endless. Then I discovered another new passion - Adobe Creative Suite and the endless possibilities it offered to design and print my very own creations - completely customized to my partner and I. The final piece of the puzzle was creating my own fonts - named after us, created specifically for us and thus... my contribution to aDelicateMatter was born.
The next step was looking for bridesmaid dresses that suited the 5 different body types, styles and personalities of my bridesmaids. I had a pear-shaped Swedish gal with oodles of tattoos, a boyish-shaped petite mum of two, a tall pale beauty with raven hair and freckles ta-boot, a bronzed Aussie goddess with long blonde locks and legs to match and a lifelong friend who was as bonny as she was tall. How do you dress this eclectic mix of lovely lasses...??? My cousin and I (the raven haired beauty) discovered a wonderful thing - that good stretchy Lycra in a muted pastel or wonderful bright, with an empire line and long sweeping ties that can fasten any-which-way you like... creates the perfect bridesmaid dress. Flattering to all, endless color and style options, all available in the one location. How did we find it you may ask??? We made them... and they were such a hit, now we sell them to you.
The final step on this journey ended at the styling and decor. Being not a fan of rhinestones, satin and the color cobalt blue - my options locally were... shall we say limited? Getting married at a rustic winery and having a love of floral, pinwheels, recycled, upcycled and the freshest eclectic mix of flowers, meant once again... I would need to do things myself or enlist the services of other artisans who shared my vision. Through this research and purchasing experience I began to appreciate the amazingly complex nature of style and design and so am now studying this at a local adult learning facility. I now create bespoke (and I think... beautiful) styling items for your kitchen tea, bridal shower, engagement or wedding... nothing is impossible, you need simply to ask.
And so, by the end of the wedding process, and having realized how limiting the current offerings (outside of Etsy of course) were, I decided that aDelicateMatter should be born. And so, my friends... it is.
Started making stationery only last year after a life-long (to date) love affair with all things paper. After making my own wedding invitations, bonbonnieres and style elements people began asking if I could do the same for them. And now I do...
