About

I love crafting jewelry into gorgeous pieces for my customers!!

I did silversmithing as a hobby. It's something I've always enjoyed. Molding metal to create beautiful works of art is very satisfying. It's nothing I had really considered doing full time. I had a good job teaching photography at the local technical college.

Then May 21, 2011 happened. An F5 class tornado destroyed half of the city where I live, including my tech school. They eventually rebuilt the school, but didn't bring back the graphic design department. So there I was, with no job and half the city in the same predicament as me.

I was discussing my situation with one of my daughters and she suggested I start selling my creations on Etsy. I opened a shop and haven't looked back. I love the opportunity to work one-on-one with my customers and provide individualized attention. I craft my jewelry by hand and love what I do.

Over the years, my daughters and I have added to our skills. We are now goldsmiths as well as silversmiths. We have also learned bookmaking and have a journal shop https://www.etsy.com/shop/AbishBookWorks

Thanks for stopping by and looking at my shop. I hope you find something you love too.

    Life's what happens when you're making other plans. I took a metalsmithing class as an elective. Loved it so much, I took 2 more. Bought tools and eventually came to sell fine jewelry on Etsy full time. I get to work with my daughters too!

    I knew I loved making jewelry ever since I took a class in high school on it. I love making unique pieces, taking pretty photos, and putting the finishing touches on a gift to a special someone. It's also great to do what I love with my family! :)

    It's great getting to do what I love while getting to spend time with my daughter. I love working with my family.

Accepted payment methods

  • Accepts Etsy gift cards
Payment
Payment is expected at time of purchase in US funds.

_______________________________________
{Mode of Payment}

I accept PayPal and credit cards/gift cards by direct checkout through Etsy. It's friendly, it's known, it's fast, it's easy. (Even my mom did it!) I process your shipment after your payment for your jewelry is received.

For paypal payments, items will be shipped as soon as funds are credited to my account. If funds are held up by paypal, jewelry will be shipped once paypal releases the funds to my account. I cannot ship your item until the funds are released to my account as payment has not been received until they are released, even if paypal has pulled the money of your account.

{Questions or comments}

Shipping
Currently I ship jewelry to US addresses and some countries. Contact me regarding international shipping. Determination at this time will be made on a country to country basis for countries not listed and a shipping quote can be provided.

{Shipping Methods}

I wish it were possible to teleport your items to you. Unfortunately, that technology hasn't been invented, yet. (Note to self--work on teleportation device.)

I ship via USPS First Class. Priority Mail or Priority Mail Express are available for an additional charge. (cause you know, it's good to have options). Delivery confirmation (Tracking) is always included, insurance is not but can be purchased for an additional fee. You can get your stuff shipped UPS/Fed Ex if you want, however there may be additional shipping charges depending on how much the shipping is on UPS/Fed Ex.

DELIVERY ISSUES

If the USPS delivery confirmation system says your package was delivered, but you did not receive it, please contact your post office or postal carrier as they will be best able to help you track down your parcel faster. I am also happy to try to help you figure out what happened in anyway I can.

Shipping Speeds and Rates for US addresses:
**USPS First Class - 3 to 5 business days. Delivery time not guaranteed by USPS and therefore I cannot guarantee this timeframe either. That said, mail shipped first class typically arrives in 3-5 business days to US addresses.

**USPS Priority Mail - 2 to 5 business days. Again, delivery time not guaranteed by USPS and therefore I cannot guarantee this timeframe either. That said, mail shipped priority mail typically arrives in 2-5 business days. During the Christmas shipping season is where you will see the most difference in speed versus first class.

**USPS Priority Mail Express - 1 to 2 business days. This is the only shipping speed guaranteed by the US Postal Service. Depending on where you live, your item will arrive next day or two day (no delivery on Sundays or Holidays). I will send you a convo with expected delivery after I have taken your item to the post office and received a delivery time from them for this shipping option.

If you want your item shipped UPS/FedEx, contact me for a quote.

{Insurance}

It would be great if I could control the universe, really, it would. For starters, clouds would be made of cotton candy and every day would be Saturday!!!!! Unfortunately, my phenomenal cosmic power is out of warranty, so I have no control over what happens to your package after it leaves my hands. You however can prepare for that rainy day if you want to...

Insurance on your jewelry is your responsibility and is optional. I really and truly cannot control the Universe, really, and thereby am not responsible for damages incurred during shipping or for lost or stolen packages. Insurance will be charged at the current USPS insurance rate.

{Handling Times}

I am as excited as you are to get your really awesome jewelry into your hands. I mean come on, it's really cool and you want it now. I will do my best to make it happen for you.

I send ready to ship jewelry within 3 business days of receipt of payment, so the sooner you send green, the sooner I ship your new stuff. I'll even send you an email or convo when I have shipped your stuff. If the Universe conspires against me and there will be a delay, I will contact you.

Made to order items will take longer, depending on fabrications times. I will convo you through the process with an expected ship date.

_______________________________________
{Cancellations}

I do not accept cancellations. Once your jewelry order has shipped, it cannot be cancelled even by me. (I mean really, have you ever tried to climb through those little mail slots? It is not a pretty sight and should not be done.)

_______________________________________
{Shipping Address}

Hey, I like you, and like to try to help out the people I like. For your protection I ship to the address listed on your Etsy account. If you want your item shipped to a different address, make the change to your account before purchase.

I know you want to make sure you get your jewelry, so to avoid loss due to misdelivery, please be certain the address on your Etsy account is correct before you order. Correct addressing is the responsibility of the customer and as such, so is a mis-delivered item due to an incorrectly addressed package.

If your package gets returned to me as unclaimed I'll contact you for further information. I will gladly reship your jewelry order for an additional shipping fee. Unfortunately, I am unable to refund for unclaimed purchases.

_______________________________________
{International Shipping}

International shipping varies based on local customs regulations. Please contact me if you don't see your country listed.

The international shipping fees I charge cover the cost of shipping and packing supplies. It does NOT cover any customs or VAT fees or other duties. These are the responsibility of the buyer. Items returned due to customer refusal to pay these fees or duties will not be eligible for a refund.

Due to postage requirements of various countries, quite often the shipping fees don't even cover the cost of shipping and I pay for the additional shipping cost for you.

It is the responsibility of the purchaser to be familiar with their country's import regulations and adherence to said regulations. If your country does not allow importation of certain materials such as precious metals or gemstones, I am not responsible for this. If jewelry is confiscated by purchaser's governmental agencies/regulations including but not limited to customs, this is the responsibility of the purchaser and will not constitute a reason for cancellation, replacement or refund. As stated before, it is the responsibility of the purchaser to be knowledgeable of their country's regulations and compliance with those regulations.

Shipping Speeds and Rates for International Packages:
**USPS First Class International - 4 to 6 weeks. Delivery time not guaranteed by USPS and therefore I cannot guarantee this timeframe either.

**USPS Priority Mail International - 6 to 10 business days. Again, delivery time not guaranteed by USPS and therefore I cannot guarantee this timeframe either.

**USPS Priority Mail Express International - 3 to 5 business days. And yet again, delivery time not guaranteed by USPS and therefore I cannot guarantee this timeframe either.

International Customers: Purchasing insurance for order worth more than $50.00 is recommended. I am NOT responsible for lost uninsured packages.

Unfortunately, tracking is unavailable to some international countries. I can provide proof of shipping, but once it leaves the USA, I cannot be held responsible for delay or undelivered packages

Delivery Confirmation is included for First-Class International and Priority Mail
International Flat Rate Envelope & Small Flat Rate Box package types going to the following countries ONLY:

Australia, Canada, France, Germany, Great Britain and Northern Ireland, Italy, Netherlands, New Zealand, Portugal, and Spain.

{Doing Our Part}

I love this planet...I really do. I try to do my part to keep it pretty. As part of that effort to encourage sustainability, I recycle packing and shipping materials when shipping your jewelry whenever possible.
Refunds and Exchanges
I do accept returns for exchange within 14 days of the date of delivery shown on the delivery confirmation. Jewelry must be returned in the original condition in which it was sent in order to receive credit.

Refunds are given in the form of credit that can be used in my shop for the amount of the purchase price less any shipping and transaction fees.

I ship all jewelry in the condition I consider acceptable for my own use. I also do my best to point out any of the interesting eccentricities that come along with handcrafted and one of a kind items through photos and descriptions.

Should you feel differently, please convo or email me and we'll work together toward a resolution. http://www.etsy.com/convo_new.php?to_username=AbishJewelryWorks

{Shortages/Defects}

I carefully inspect all orders before shipping. If you are not satisfied with your purchase due to shortage or defective merchandise, please contact me within 14 days of receiving your jewelry and I will happily review your request! Items I determine to be in fact defective will be eligible for exchange or store credit upon return of merchandise.

My guarantee only covers issues regarding the construction of the jewelry. Damage to jewelry due to shipping damage, chemical contamination while wearing (such as bleach, salt, sulfur or other compounds), improper cleaning methods (steam or ultrasonic) or heavy or rough use is not covered.

While the rings available in my shop are sturdy and can withstand daily wear, they do need to be treated with care. They are not designed to be worn during housework, yardwork, construction or any other similar heavy work. Take them off while bathing or swimming. Do not expose them to any chemical compounds.

I do want you to be completely satisfied with your purchase, so before leaving feedback, please contact me and I will do my very best to make sure you are satisfied. http://www.etsy.com/convo_new.php?to_username=AbishJewelryWorks

(Metal Allergies)

While Silver allergies are rare, they do exist. It is unfortunate when that occurs. Even if a silver allergy is not discovered until after jewelry is received, it is not refundable. There are several options available to make the jewelry wearable. I can apply a lacquer finish, or a Renaissance wax finish to the ring for a small fee. Buyer will be responsible for return shipping to have the wax or lacquer applied. I would be happy to apply either product at the customer's choice. Neither product is 100% permanent, but should provide protection from the metal for some time to come.
Additional policies and FAQs
I make every effort to insure photos and descriptions of all jewelry and gemstones, including rings, necklaces, bracelets earrings and pendants are accurate. However, some variations in color or pattern must be acceptable for all handcrafted items when choosing based on digital images.

Unless an item states it is one-of-a-kind, the photographs are representative of the item you will receive and not of the actual item.

If you have any questions or comments, I would love to hear from you. Feel free to contact me via convo or email.

{Darkened Patina}

Please be aware that the darkened patina is NOT permanent. It will wear away over time on the high spots of your jewelry, leaving a distressed look. It works sort of like your favorite pair of jeans. The more you wear it, the more lived in they become and become unique to you.

How long the distressing process takes depends on many factors...
**How often you wear your jewelry.
**How often the piece of jewelry is bumped up against other objects.
**Whether you wear your jewelry while washing your hands or bathing.
**Acidity/Alkalinity of skin.
**Exposure to chemicals.
This list is not a complete list as the list of factors is extensive. Depending on these and other factors, the patina can wear away in as little as a few days or weeks, or may remain fresh for months.

If you really like the darkened patina and would like it reapplied, I offer that service for jewelry purchased from me. The listing can be found here:
https://www.etsy.com/listing/120706153/reapplication-of-patina-and-jewelry

Additionally, I offer a DIY at-home patina kit soon so you can re-apply the patina yourself.

{A Note About Silver Quality}

Silver can be used to denote the color or the actual metal, and often it can be confusing. What kind of silver is this? Is it solid or filled? What do the terms mean? Is it real silver? Hopefully I can clear this up for you.

.999 silver is 99.9% pure and is an incredibly soft material that doesn’t do well in the construction of jewelry. It scratches, dents and scars too easily and doesn’t maintain the detail. In light of this, another metal is usually combined with it to create a stronger alloy that resists damage..

Sterling silver, also known as 925 silver is a silver/copper alloy containing 92.5% silver and 7.5% copper. This makes the metal hard enough to resist scratching and maintain detail when worked into jewelry.

Silver jewelry that is not sterling is made of a silver alloy that is 85% to 90% silver and cannot be legally called sterling. Coin silver is typically 90% silver and dental silver is usually 60-70% silver.

German silver, also known as nickel silver is not silver at all, but is an alloy of nickel, copper and zinc. It has much the same color as silver, but is a lot less expensive since it contains no silver at all.

Solid silver jewelry is completely silver all the way through the piece, which means it can be polished multiple times without running the risk of polishing your silver away. Silver that is noted as filled, electroformed or plated has a much less expensive base metal in the center that a thin layer of silver has been applied over the surface of. This cuts down the cost of the item, but also runs the risk of the silver wearing away and the base metal showing through.

Silver does tarnish. The best way to keep it tarnish free is to wear it often. When it isn’t being worn, store in an airtight ziplock bag as oxygen is what tarnishes silver.

_______________________________________
{Durability/Guarantee}

I take care to be certain my jewelry is of high quality and acceptable for everyday wear. If I miss a defect in my final inspection, I will happily exchange, replace or repair your jewelry. Exchange can be for the same item or similar item. If price of exchange item is less than original purchase price, an additional item of jewelry can be added to the exchange. If price of exchange item is more than the original purchase, customer will be responsible for difference in price.

Defective items are only available for exchange, replacement or repair. Refunds are not given.

The blackened patina on silver jewelry is not permanent and not guaranteed. It will wear with use and show the silver underneath. This is a normal and acceptable process for the blackened patina and is not covered under the durability guarantee. Daily wear will speed up the distressing process. Removing jewelry while washing hands and bathing will help to extend the life of the blackened patina.

Your jewelry is sturdy enough for normal, daily wear. I guarantee workmanship for a period of 3 months from date of delivery noted on delivery confirmation. Rough treatment (such as yard work or exposure to chemicals) is not covered under my workmanship guarantee. Exposure to excessive salt or sulfur compounds present on the skin can weaken and or tarnish silver. This is also a condition of wear/treatment and is not considered a defect. If your hands are highly salty or sulfurous or you handle these chemicals often, a lacquer finish can be applied to the ring for a small fee.

If there is an issue with your jewelry, contact me and we will work out specifics. Generally speaking, convo me, ship it to me and if I determine the issue is workmanship, I will credit $5 for return shipping. If the issue is due to rough handling of the jewelry, I will convo you to work out details, but no shipping credit will be issued. You are welcome to use the shipping method you prefer, however, I do recommend purchasing delivery confimation and insuance for your protection as I cannot be responsible for jewelry until I receive it.
