AC Clothing and Bags / afterglow studio & boutique

Amy Cools, 39, was born and raised in California, and has been sewing nearly as long as she can remember. With one home ec class at age 14 as her only formal training, Amy's interest in designing & constructing pieces that fit well, look well, and are perfectly comfortable on all types of human forms, led her to teach herself all aspects of design, pattern drafting, sizing, and construction of garments, and at age 19, to offer for sale her first line of reconstructed vintage designs, and about a year later, her first line of all-original designs. Amy's styles and shapes are most directly informed by her fascination with the human form, and in her years of fine arts classes mostly focusing on figure drawing and painting, she grew to have an instinct for designs that fit and flatter almost any type of figure, and her love of color and whimsy grew out of her own love of art, of vintage and unusual clothing and fabrics, of the distinctly 1980's and 1990's bright, sunny, and bold California style, and of her own strong sense of fun, adventure, and humor.

There's a built-in discount for multiple items/yardage built in for all orders shipped to the U.S.A., as you can see from the shipping charges: shipping is free for all additional items/yards after the first item/yard.
I wish I could offer the same discount for international orders, but shipping is so expensive that I can't afford it; however, I wrap international orders as lightly as possible to keep prices low as I can!

Dear gift givers: I'm very happy to wrap gifts in holiday/special occasion gift wrap and include a personalized note/card, and to ship to the recipient's address you specify; just include instructions and recipient's address in the 'Message to Seller' box when ordering, or in a convo. Happy Holidays!

To find your size, find the category that corresponds to your measurements. If you have concerns or issues regarding proper fit, please convo me with your measurements and questions.

> tops and dresses

Generally, going by the bust measurement is sufficient in finding the right size top or knit dress for you.

bust (measure around the fullest part)
> 32"-33" – x-small
> 34"-35" – small
> 36"-37" – medium
> 38"-40" – large
> 41"-42"- x-large

> skirts and pants

The hip measurement is usually sufficient in finding the right size skirt or pants for you. If you have a very straight figure (think the sultry Louise Brooks) or a very curvy figure (think the voluptuous Mae West) please convo me with your waist & hip measurements and I can recommend the right size for you

hip: (measure around the fullest part of your bottom)
> 33-35- x-small
> 36-37- small
> 38-39 – medium
> 40-42- large
> 43-45- x-large

Returns and exchanges
Since I'm a small business, I can't afford to give refunds on items that arrive as described, unless the laws of your country requires it

Of course, if I've made a mistake on your order, that's another matter: please convo me right away so I can remedy the situation. This being said, I do want you to be pleased and to have just the right style and fit, or the right materials for your project, so if the piece arrives as described but you decide it just isn't working out, you can exchange it by sending it back unworn and unmodified. I do need to charge you for the additional shipping on the new piece I send you, but at a discount: half of the original shipping charge.

For all returns on items that arrive as described, however, the buyer must pay the return shipping costs
I accept payments through Paypal and directly through Etsy's Direct Checkout Service; for overseas orders, I recommend Etsy's Direct Checkout because of the additional protection they offer for lost packages
I generally ship two or three times a week, and use USPS First Class (for packages under 13 oz) or Priority Shipping (for packages over 13 oz); I've had excellent experience with both, arriving very quickly within a week in almost all cases to the United States and Canada.

The minimum shipping charge is $2.50, and all shipping over that includes actual postage cost as well as a small amount to pay for packaging and a tiny bit for my time, generally around a dollar. However, if there's a large discrepancy between my estimate and the actual shipping costs over the $2.50 minimum, I'll refund your over-payment right away.

There's a built-in discount on all purchases of multiple items shipped anywhere in the U.S.: I only charge shipping on the first item, and all additional items are shipped free of charge to you. Therefore, the more you buy, the bigger the discount

For overseas shipping, it generally takes from 1-2 weeks, and I ship First Class because it's by far the least expensive. I've never yet had the US Postal Service lose an overseas package, though a few packages took significantly over 2 weeks. I'm sorry, but I can't offer refunds for packages shipped overseas via First Class (though I can provide proof of shipping), since there's no insurance to allow me to recoup my losses. If you'd like to pay extra to ship your order by a faster, trackable method, I'm happy to oblige.

I use recycled shipping materials whenever possible: cute packaging is nice, but I believe caring for our planet is beautiful! I use just the amount of packaging necessary to prevent damage under normal shipping circumstances. If you've had problems with your local postal service being extra rough on packages, please let me know & I'll take extra precautions.
