Beautiful earrings very happy with purchase
Welcome to my corner of the world...
A Certain World* is where I go to unwind, create, and dream.
I made my first jewelry sometime in elementary school, and my designs, materials, skills, and techniques have been evolving ever since. So far, everything I've learned about jewelry making has been entirely organic and self-taught through trial, error, experimentation, or just by playing around and seeing where the pieces land.
I design and make my jewelry, take and edit photographs, write descriptions, and manage my shop and orders all from my dining room table. (Hopefully in our next apartment - or house?! - I'll have a room of my own that can be a studio!) My work is inspired by my travels, my love of books* and plants and the cosmos, and anything that's colorful, crisp, and vibrant. In choosing supplies, I gravitate towards clear stones in bright colors with a lot of shine or sparkle, and if it's teardrop shaped, I'm in love; I only work with sterling silver, goldfill, or vermeil metals. My "Perseid" collection is the start of a realization of a dream to specialize in precious and semiprecious gemstone and metal jewelry.
I started my shop as a way to disconnect from the day-to-day of hectic life in New York City: a little something I could use to fill my free time with something that I loved doing. I live in slower-paced Berlin now...but I still love it! Creating something with my hands lets me think and focus in a way that's completely different from my day job (which, thankfully, I also love). There's nothing more fulfilling for me than to be able to look at my shop and say, "I made that!"
I hope you love what I've made, too.
*my shop name comes from the title of a book by my favorite poet, W.H. Auden.

I love vibrant color. I am most at home when I am off discovering new places, either on the road or in a book. Making jewelry is my joy.

Many of my pieces are truly one-of-a-kind: I frequently make only one piece of any given design (with exceptions, of course!). This stems from both a long-lived habit of buying in small quantities, and because many of my beads are remnants of long-ago purchases and I can't always find the same thing again. If you see something you like and you see the note "this is a limited-edition piece", don't hesitate - chances are once it's gone, it's gone!
That said, if you would like more than one of a particular design, or if a design you love sells out, I would be more than happy to consult with you and attempt to hunt down the materials to re-create a custom piece.
Thanks for visiting - I hope you find something you like!
Accepted payment methods
- Accepts Etsy gift cards
I accept credit card payments directly on Etsy, and also via PayPal. Paying with a credit card on Etsy is a fairly new feature; here are instructions on how to make a purchase with this payment method: http://www.etsy.com/help/article/1939
If you choose to pay via PayPal and are having problems checking out (sometimes PayPal can have little hiccups, for really random reasons), please contact me and I can assist you, or we can make alternate payment arrangements. I can only ship items after payment has cleared.
Want to pay through PayPal but you don't have a PayPal account? No worries! You can still proceed though the checkout process and enter your credit or debit card information on PayPal's site without signing in to an account. Here's how: http://www.etsy.com/help/article/361
New York State residents will automatically be charged 8.875% sales tax at checkout in PayPal (this will still apply while I am living in Berlin, since my business is based in New York, and I will only be in Berlin for a few months).
Orders will be shipped to the address listed on your Etsy receipt within 3 days of cleared payment (though I will usually ship sooner).
***If you are paying via PayPal, before submitting your order please double-check that the address listed for your order on Etsy's checkout page is correct!***
ORDERS TO THE EU and UK: are shipped in recycled bubble mailers via Deutsche Post. Orders should take about 3-5 business days to arrive; as in most countries, holiday shipping will most likely take a bit longer. If you would like to upgrade your shipping options* or add insurance, please let me know either prior to ordering (I will make a custom listing for you in this case), or in the "message to seller" at checkout (in which case I will send you a PayPal invoice for the additional shipping fees).
INTERNATIONAL ORDERS (anywhere outside the EU) are shipped in recycled bubble mailers via Deutsche Post/DHL. I will email you with a registered mail tracking number when I ship your package. Most orders to the U.S. take between 7-10 business days to arrive, but this can vary due to the time it takes for each individual parcel to clear Customs. Holiday shipping will most likely be a bit longer. Insurance is at the discretion of the buyer (leave me a message at checkout if you would like to add this). ***PLEASE NOTE: Customs fees (i.e. import duties and taxes) are the buyer's responsibility! Please check with your country's customs office to find out if there are any additional costs for importing jewelry made with semiprecious metal or gemstones, as you may be required to pay these fees upon delivery of your item.
*At this time, I am unable to accommodate overnight shipping. I'm so sorry for any inconvenience! DHL offers 2-day shipping to the U.S.; please Convo me prior to ordering if you are interested in this option (be sure to include your address so that I can calculate postage costs).
Refunds and Exchanges
RETURNS & EXCHANGES
Please contact me about returns and exchanges within five days of receiving your package. I will ship your chosen exchange item upon receipt of your returned item in its original, unworn condition. I am happy to cover shipping fees to return an item; if you would like a new item in exchange for the returned item, shipping fees for the new item are the responsibility of the buyer and are non-refundable. Custom orders are not eligible for refund or exchange.
If your jewelry is ever in need of a repair, let me know! If the damage is due to a defect in the jewelry, I will assume responsibility for shipping and repair costs. If damage is due to an accident, mishandling or other trauma, I will try my best to complete repairs with minimal cost to you.
Additional policies and FAQs
I happily welcome custom orders! I love hunting down materials for specific designs and will gladly work with you to re-create a sold item or develop a custom piece just for you. Please note that due to the extra time and care put into creating them, custom orders are not eligible for return or exchange.
Each item arrives ready for gift-giving in a ribbon-tied jewelry box with padding inside. At your request, gift items can be packaged with their own gift tag (at no extra charge); I can leave it blank for you, or transcribe a note of your devising. I can also ship your gift directly to the recipient at your request - again, leave me a message at checkout with the recipient's address.
