My son was born in 2011 on a Monday morning - more specifically he was "harvested" on a monday morning. All 11 pounds of him was delivered by c-section and he has been a growth overachiever ever since. When my son was toddler he had outgrown all of the cutesy toddler clothes and i was left with few options for cute baby-ish clothing when shopping at the store. An idea popped in my mind that what we really needed was age appropriate designs and styles for my toddler who was much more "big kid" sized. That summer i taught myself to sew and by Christmas - his drawers were full. Cute prints, versatile outfits, grow with me pants that lasted even through the most robust growth spurt!

His drawers were full but my love for sewing had just begun. I had been an etsy seller for a number of years at that point - cycling through macrame and other fiber arts - and sewing became my true passion! I knew i wasn't the only momma out there looking for cute and age appropriate clothing that wouldnt be outgrown in a matter of weeks!

But why "Silly Sea Turtle" - When my son was only a few days old i was cuddling him on my chest and he lifted up his head and stretched out that little cute neck and he looked so much like a little turtle that calling him turtle boy just stuck! He's a silly little thing, and Silly Sea Turtle was born! I love that my shop name reflects back to the inspiration for my shop in the first place. I sew with love - love for my own child and love for yours too!

In 2015 we were joined by our little flower. She also was "harvested" by c-section and weighing in at a much more reasonable 9 pounds! She's a little spit fire and keeps me on my toes!

I have the wonderful opportunity to stay at home with both of my children. Our little flower is now 3 and she is a silly little thing that loves to play and explore and learn. Our little Turtle is now 6 and he is in full time school.

One piece of our family puzzle is that our son does have a severe global developmental delay. He is non verbal and struggles to make forward progress. His fighting and tenacious spirit inspires me! Progress is progress - no matter how slow. Sea Turtles have been a constant symbol for our family. A symbol reminding us of our son, a Silly turtle reminding us to have fun, and a Sea Turtle reminding us of the beauty and magic in the slow moving graceful creature.

Silly Sea Turtle is more than just an etsy shop, more than just a brand - Silly Sea Turtle is our family. It's a way of life. It's appreciating the little things, and striving for more. It's going with the flow of ever changing life and enjoying the ride. Welcome to our family!
