Announcement   A Cranberry Day is about simple enjoyments, and living and loving well. Possessions don't make happy moments, but small loving details can enhance them. Life is messy, especially as a mommy, but it's beautiful too.

I strive to create teething necklaces worthy of being enjoyed by the tiny someone in your life, but cool enough to hold their own when you get a night away. Sisters, aunts, grandmas can all get in on the action too! Baby will appreciate any access to soothing those sore gums (poor little dear).

All of my necklaces are made with high quality silicone, similar to pacifiers and bottle nipples. No BPA, no phthalates, no lead, so not to worry. I freak out about what my child puts in his mouth as much as anyone else so I make sure my products are safe for gnawing. You can wash them by hand, you can put them in the dishwasher. You can put them in the refrigerator of freezer for extra soothing teething relief. Each of my necklaces has a breakaway clasp for safety. Please note that teething beads can be choking hazards when not used as intended. They are for the grown up to wear, please don't leave them with your small child unattended.

I know these aren't sold as intended for toddlers, but I've bought two necklaces from A Cranberry Day for my 2 year old daughter and she absolutely loves them! She can easily unsnap them with a tug and we don't have to worry about her chocking or breaking the necklace in any way. They are awesome! And so pretty!

About

The Small Things, and Memories

A Cranberry Day is about simple enjoyments, and living and loving well.

I was introduced to cranberry bogs in New England. I found them beautiful. I remember riding a train and admiring the water and bright red berries glistening in the sunlight. This memory leads into others. Jars full of old buttons, picking flowers in the summer. The swing in the backyard under a massive shady tree. The power and freedom of the Atlantic. My grandmother. She was beautiful, loving, and kind. She made everything around her come alive and be more lovely than it was before.

When we adopted our son and I finally became a mother, I began musing about what I wanted most to impress on his heart, especially in his early years. I wanted him to feel safe, warm, loved. I wanted him to know that I’ll always love him. I wanted to foster a sense of curiosity to discover his world. To find the things he enjoys and watch that sheer uninhibited joyful smile light up his face.

I visited memories from when I was little. What were some of my happy times? We moved around, all around the world- a lot. I loved the adventures, but I longed for the familiar. We have family in Massachusetts, and my grandparent’s little house never moved, changed precious little, and there I felt at home. The house wasn’t perfect, but it was where I loved to be. I remember the tiniest details, all connected with pleasant, happy memories.

But it wasn’t the house, or the treasures to be found inside, it was the people there and the feeling of knowing where I was, solidarity, that made those times so special. I reflected on how my grandmother did it. How she made that tiny home warm, loving, and safe for her friends and family even in the midst of being busy and juggling life and its messy moments. The house didn’t need the cookie jar or the cup that looked like a roll of lifesavers or the gorgeous flowers out back, but it did need her. It needed her gentle and whimsical spirit to make everything come alive.

I thought about how I want to be there for my little guy in the way my grandmother was there for me. To make ordinary moments special, to encourage adventure, to create a space where he feels safe and at home. To embrace the messy moments and find the beauty in them. But how? I’m still figuring that out. I think a lot of it has to do with not losing myself entirely into the fog of motherhood and forgetting who I am and what I enjoy. But instead finding ways to draw him into my life, and share those experiences with him. I’m still learning what it means to be a mommy, and I suspect I’ll be learning that for the rest of my life. But I am striving to pay attention to the details and learn what my son needs and enjoys most, and attempt to enjoy those things right along with him.

How does all that tie into my product? Easily. When I became a mommy I went into a stage of new mommy frumpyhood. I often wanted to wear a necklace to help boost my confidence but felt it wasn’t practical. Then I bought a teething necklace. My son loved it. He played with it, gnawed at it, and was generally entertained by the idea that something I was wearing was okay for him to grab at. It kept him close to me when we were out, it was soothing when he was in pain. (poor little dude) It didn’t make the moments but we both enjoyed it, together. It’s a product that I can honestly say was helpful for us especially in those early days.

I also have a creative side. It never sleeps. It needs attention or it gets grumpy and demanding (much like other characters in my life…hmmmm). I decided I wanted to make teething necklaces that were cool. Cool enough to wear as teething necklaces with or without a tiny child in sight. And here they are. Will they make your moments? No, let's be real. But I do think that the little things in life, the smallest details, can enhance happy times.
