All of my Tie-Dye pieces are washed many times before I put them up for sale, & the colors are always rich & colorfast! I sign my "Adz" logo on all of my finished designs. I bring many years of practice, trial 'n' error, tweaking, quality control & especially fun to every design I dye. With the Adz logo comes my seal of approval that this is exactly what you're getting when you spend your hard-earned money on my artwork! I'm happy to be part of Etsy's world - I can see I'm in good company. Take a look at some of my work here, and let me know if I can dye something special for YOU!

About

Hand Dyeing Abstract Designs That Keep On Evolving. Let's See What Unfolds Next.

The seed was planted many moons ago. Growing up in Philadelphia, a big rock 'n roll town, I attended many concerts including Grateful Dead shows. I remember seeing tie-dyes and thinking that I like the idea, but "if I were to do it...". While still in high school, I started to practice dyeing little squares I cut from old sheets, which I coined "Dead Ragz". Trial 'n error only - no internet back then.

For the next few years I kept it up, & I worked for a traveling show which exposed me to a variety of art, in addition to showing me the rest of the country. That lead me to New Orleans, a cornucopia of soul & creativity, where I resided for many years. There I developed my Tie-Dye and also collaborated with mask, hat, & costume artists. Eventually I was recruited by Zahdan, dyer extraordinaire, to help produce tie-dye for his French Market shop. With him I learned some new techniques, also this type of production line gave me the opportunity to practice & fine-tune my best selling designs thru repetition.

Currently I do my work & live year-round in The Wildwoods, NJ (previously my Summer only haunt), a barrier island on the South Jersey Shore. In generally, my procedure is to fold the design into the blank white piece often with many accordion-like pleats, or twists, or crunches, then I use rubber bands to hold it all together while I dye it. Many times I'll use tight string to hold the design in place - this is a completely different process with a completely different outcome. I'll apply all of the colored dyes by shooting them on with squeeze bottles - one at a time & all in one sitting. Later the piece is washed heavily until its completely clean. I'll finish it up with my logo signature.

I enjoy working from a large palette of techniques that I have accumulated over the years. I tweak & refine my Tie-Dye designs & color combinations constantly. I do many designs, and each piece I dye is treated differently to get it just right. They spin off one another & they are always evolving. Although I am disciplined with my work, I don't want to control every aspect of it. I think this is vital. The space that I don't control is what has always enabled my Tie-Dye to grow over the years - and that's actually where the real magic occurs! This allows me to see different effects - good & bad - that I didn't plan, then I can choose to expand on the idea or avoid it. If the idea is a keeper, I'll toss it in my toolbox. And if I don't like it, I'll try to remember what I did, so I don't do it again.

My designs come to me more as an abstract feeling or idea. I don't keep recipes for my designs - there's nothing written down. I think about it - its essence & all - then I do the Tie-Dye more or less as one stream of consciousness. I liken it to telling a story or playing a song - there's always an opportunity for improvisation & embellishment. It comes so natural to me now. Every one is new & full of surprises. And with the encouragement & support of folks from all over, this work never gets old. Enjoy!

CUSTOM ORDERS

Feel free to contact me anytime you'd like to request something special for yourself or as gifts for others: adam [!at] adzart.com, Etsy Convo, or call or text me if you prefer, 609-972-6006.

To get started, I'd like to know a couple of things regarding your custom order:
Type of item or Garment, Size, Design/colors. Let me know what you have in mind, and we will work out the details. You may refer to my photos. Give me as much or as little direction as you want... or no direction!

Once we have the details together, I will create a custom Etsy listing for you to purchase - payable with PayPal, credit card, check or money order.

I'll keep you posted, and let you know when I'm finished (about 2-3 weeks in most cases but the holidays).

FOR CUSTOM ORDERS NEEDED BY CHRISTMAS, please place your order as soon as possible since this is a one-man operation and I get very busy come November. I take Christmas custom orders on a first come first serve basis.
FOR ALL OTHER ORDERS NEEDED BY CHRISTMAS: My cutoff date for shipping out orders is usually around December 18. If it's close to that date, please check with me before purchasing from my shop to see if I'm able to ship your items.

PLEASE keep your lines of communication open and respond to me as soon as you can to prevent any delays in your order - I will do the same for you! I may need your input on some detail or I have a stock backorder, etc. I will contact you via Etsy Convos, and in some cases I will email you. Please add me to your email Contacts (adam@adzart.com) to assure my messages don't get sent to your spam folder.

I will show you photos to get your okay before I ship it to you. Please give me your go-ahead that you are ready to receive it in the mail. Your package takes 1-3 biz days to be delivered. I use USPS. Once it's shipped, tracking info will be available thru your Etsy order.

Even though I will know when your package is delivered, I always like to know how you like things when you see them up close and in person. Knowing you're happy with your order is my top priority! A quick note is always appreciated. Please leave a Review on Etsy for your order - I think this builds confidence with folks who may want to ask me to custom dye something for them or buy from my shop.
(Buyers can leave a Review on Etsy - within 100 days of purchase - by going to You > Purchases & Reviews and locating the order you want to leave a Review for. This can be done thru the Easy app or thru their full site from your device or computer.)

DYEING YOUR STUFF

Often folks send me their own items to dye for them – all shapes and sizes. The items need to be white or very light colored and made from natural fibers – cotton, wool, rayon, hemp, silk, denim, etc. When people purchase items online they will ship them directly to me to save on postage. Just give me a heads-up, so I know to expect them. Although there are many websites that offer blank white items at a good price, here are a couple of my favorites…

WASHING MY TIE-DYES
Each piece is completely clean and free from loose dye, & ready to wear or display! The last step in my dyeing process is very important: The Washout. I wash every piece several times in hot soapy water to get out the excess dye particles that could potentially bleed or muddy up the piece later on. Since these non-toxic dyes bond to the fibers on a molecular level, the colors will not fade, even after years of washings!

FOR FUTURE WASHINGS
Generally, my Tie-Dyes are low maintenance. Wash with dark clothes using cold water. Remove promptly when cycle is finished. Air-drying is best to keep the fabric in good condition longer. Machine drying is fine, just don't cook it. Dry most of the way, then hang it up. Softner is ok. The better you take care of your Tie-Dye, the better it will take care of you!

NOTE: Colors transferring to other clothes is uncommon, but if it were to happen (& more likely to white items), the most likely time for it to occur would be while damp. Avoid letting the Tie-Dye sit too long with other clothes in washing machine after cycle is complete. Remove clothes promptly, and dry as usual.
Also, keep in mind that your wash water may have a slight tint to it (depending on the colors). This is normal in the first few washings. Not to worry, this does not mean your item's colors are losing vibrancy - just a few dye particles that got trapped in the fibers.
