About

Willowbones Story:

I started a business called Chansonette in 2002 as a way for me, as a single mom, artist, and educator to spend time with my daughter while still being the breadwinner. I taught her botany among a growing collection of fascinating orchids, epiphytes, and mosses. It evolved into a full on greenhouse operation, at its peak housing several thousand rare plants. Upscale event design with a horticultural focus became a large part of the business and included clients such as MTV and Stephen Starr restaurants in Philadelphia. In 2013, I closed the business to earn my MFA in photography at Lesley University College of Art and Design in Cambridge, MA where I now live, make art, and work part time as an adjunct professor. I also have a fledgling start up business that transforms digital files into handcrafted artifacts using historic and alternative photographic processes. The website will go live very soon---watch here for the link!
The Etsy shop was originally opened to sell live plants. Now, Woods & Willowbone is a place to sell the work I make that is related to horticulture, botany, and the natural world. Prints are limited edition, signed and numbered, and printed to museum archival standards on quality cotton rag papers from Hahnemule and Canson Arches. Also offered are hand printed images made using platinum and palladium, gum bichromate, and other analog photographic methods. There are art objects and functional objects, and larger scale sculptural pieces made from plant materials that may be custom ordered (i.e. I make monsters and you can own one!). Since this version of my Etsy shop is brand new, inventory will be added over the next few weeks and, of course, updated as new work becomes available. It is a celebration of the natural world as a place that fires our imaginations, where nature meets narrative. I wish for you that you will get lost in the woods, imagine monsters, and read fairy tales to the children in your lives!
