afterglowvintage's Shop Policies
Welcome to afterglow vintage!
I keep my eyes open for vintage pieces that are interesting, beautiful, funny, quality, funky, cool, highly representative of an era, unusual, or any combination of these qualities. I like to keep it interesting, not just carrying stuff that happens to be in style right now (though I have that too) but also all these great pieces that show just how ingenuous, quirky, and ever-changing our costume history is.
- I take care to inspect each piece and to describe the condition accurately. Please note, however, that these are vintage and therefore usually worn and washed at least a few times, and occasionally, there may be very small condition issues I overlook.
I rarely carry anything in my shop that contain more than minor damage, and if I do, I do my best to include it all in the description.
- 'Excellent' : there is no damage that's significant or readily noticeable
- 'Very Good' : there's at least one small bit of damage, but it doesn't detract much, if at all, to the overall appearance of the piece
- 'Good' : there's two or more bits of damage, and it's noticeable, but the overall appearance is still great
- 'Fair' : there's noticeable damage, but the piece is so awesome or rare that I'm offering it anyway
generally, going by the bust measurement is sufficient in finding the right size top for you; however, it may not be a sufficient guide if it's a fitted blouse with no stretch, or you have an exceptionally large bust or long or short torso, wide or narrow shoulders, or other specific issues with fit.
bust: 32-33 - x-small
34-35 - small
36-37 - medium
38-40 - large
-Skirts and Pants
Often, going by the hip measurement alone is sufficient in finding the right size skirt for you. if you want to be extra sure of getting the right fit, consider the following: if you wear a skirt low on the waist, as is the modern style, the easiest way of determining the waist size of the skirt or pants you want is to first measure your natural waist (the very narrowest part of your torso, usually about 1" above your bellybutton), and then your hips (the very fullest part around your butt and hips). take the number right in the middle of those two measurements and you have the waist measurement of the skirt or pants you want. go up or down an inch or two to raise or lower the waistline. with the waist measurement, the size (determined by the hip measurement), and the length as your guides, choose the size that's best for you.
hip: 33-35- x-small
38-39 - medium
I accept payments through Paypal and directly through Etsy's Direct Checkout Service; for overseas orders, I recommend Etsy's Direct Checkout because of the additional protection they offer for lost packages
I generally ship two or three times a week, and use USPS First Class (for packages under 13 oz) or Priority Shipping (for packages over 13 oz); I've had excellent experience with both, arriving very quickly within a week in almost all cases to the United States and Canada. Shipping charges include actual postage cost as well as a small amount to pay for packaging and a tiny bit for my time, generally around a dollar. However, if there's a large discrepancy between my estimate and the actual shipping cost, I'll refund your over-payment right away.
There's a built-in discount on all purchases of multiple items shipped anywhere in the U.S.: I only charge shipping on the first item, and all additional items are shipped free of charge to you. Therefore, the more you buy, the bigger the discount
For overseas shipping, it generally takes from 1-2 weeks, but I ship First Class because it's by far the least expensive. I've never yet had the US Postal Service lose an overseas package, though a few packages took significantly over 2 weeks. I'm sorry, but I can't offer refunds for packages shipped overseas via First Class (I'll provide proof of shipping with a tracking number), since there's no insurance to allow me to recoup my losses. If you'd like me to ship your order via a more secure method, I'm happy to oblige.
I package each piece to look pleasing, using just the amount of packaging necessary to prevent damage under normal shipping circumstances, recycled if possible to reduce waste and conserve resources. If you've had problems with your local postal service being extra rough on packages, please let me know & I'll take extra precautions.
Refunds and Exchanges
Since I'm a small business, I can't afford to give refunds on items that arrive as described, unless the laws of your country requires it
Of course, if I've made a mistake on your order, that's another matter: please convo me right away so I can remedy the situation. This being said, I do want you to be pleased and to have just the right style and fit, so if the piece arrives as described but you decide it just isn't working out, you can exchange it by sending it back unworn. I do need to charge you for the additional shipping on the new piece I send you, but at a discount: half of the original shipping charge.
For all returns on items that arrive as described, however, the buyer must pay the return shipping costs
