Photography is one of my true loves. My work in this medium mainly focuses on natural or inanimate subjects. I like to portray the romance and mystery of the commonplace by perhaps creating a dusted vintage effect and applying the use of unnatural colour to leave a surreal resemblance of the original image. Most of my images have a rich texture-like quality, which I achieve through editing. The process releases me from the boundaries of the camera, the reality it captures and allows me to create an image that is more personal.

Taking pictures has helped me through the hardest years of my life. I left my day job to nurse my terminally ill mum and I am so thankful I did, as each and every one of those precious moments spent as her companion on that last journey have made me truly appreciate everything around me. She inspired me to see the world in so many perspectives and search for beauty in the smallest things. I think about her when I catch sunlight filtering between trees, glimpse leaves falling silently in the Autumn or watch the tide lapping the shore. I will be eternally grateful for the way she nurtured and influenced my creativity.

Photography was something that I decided to channel my energy into and it has become a form of meditation for me, something that allowed me to express myself.

I love the melancholy of rainy days, a bird sitting lonely on a branch or a fisherman’s boat moored on the coast. I search for a hint of beauty in these familiar scenes and when I find that glimmer...click...and already I start to see the final image taking shape in my mind.

Later sipping on endless cups of tea, working late into the night in my digital darkroom, the real excitement begins as I look for ways to translate a vibrant mood into my images and portray a fresh, surreal perspective.
