From Wedding Cakes to "Candy" Jewelry

Aizie is a line of handmade, eco-friendly, resin jewelry. I'm Amy Adams, I started the brand in late 2012. Aizie is driven by my love of color, bold statement jewelry, and modern designs.

I started my first business in 2003 as a wedding cake designer, and loved it! I have a degree from the Culinary Institute of America in Hyde Park, NY, and I wanted to work with food, but not in a hot, noisy kitchen. I was looking to do something artistic and colorful, that would make people smile. Wedding cakes seemed like the right path, but I chose not to do traditional white. I used fondant, and my cakes were bright, loud, whimsical expressions of art with lots of flowers, butterflies, and Suessian shapes. It was the perfect outlet for my creativity, but it had one drawback - the cake was always gone by the end of the event.

So in 2012 I decided to focus on an art form that would last a lifetime, jewelry. I started making resin jewelry for myself as a creative outlet. What led me to explore resin was that it looked like candy. I had a huge, translucent purple & green acrylic ring I purchased in Switzerland in the 90's and it had always reminded me of a candy Ring Pop. I started thinking about combining candy and jewelry -resin was the perfect medium. I wanted art that would last forever, so I decided to create jewelry that looked like candy. The idea for Aizie resin jewelry was born.

The Process:
I put quality first. All my supplies are sourced in the USA, and I use Environmentally friendly materials whenever possible. The resin I use is an Eco resin made from pine sap. I spent several months experimenting with different resins before launching Aizie, and this particular brand was the best overall. The quality and glossiness of the resin is really important to me. It takes several days to make one piece of jewelry, so if I'm investing that much time into the process I want to use the highest quality materials.

I've brought the same colorful whimsy I used in my cakes to the design of my jewelry. I like big, bold pieces with bright colors and feminine shapes. I love knowing that my customers smile when they open a package from Aizie.

Where It All Began, and Where I Am Today:
When I started Aizie in October 2012, I was living on Cape Cod, Massachusetts. My boyfriend, J.R., and I had already decided we were moving to Austin, Texas in the Spring of 2013. I knew Austin would be a great place to meet and work with other artists. I love the city's motto, "Keep Austin Weird"! Texas has been amazing, I wish I'd moved here earlier. My jewelry is being carried in several boutiques that specialize in featuring local artists. It's been a wonderful experience and has motivated me to work on my art daily. Aizie is my "day job" and I feel so fortunate to be doing what I love, from my studio at home. Right now I'm the only employee of the company, but I have a growth plan that includes adding a couple assistants and a larger studio in the backyard.

What Kind of a Name is Aizie?:
I get asked about the name (Aizie) all the time. As a kid growing up in Napa Valley, California, my family started calling me "A", which turned into Aizie (rhymes with Daisy). The nickname has stuck ever since. I always knew that someday I would name a business after myself, and here it is! I love that the name is short & simple, and once people hear it they usually remember it. It's just so girlie and sweet that it seemed right for a jewelry company.
