About

The Story of Akumu Ink

Akumu Ink started screen-printing and selling individual t-shirts online from a humble two-bedroom apartment in Montreal, Canada back in 2008. The original line consisted of 6 tshirt designs for men and women. Today, offerings include not only tees and hoodies, but also bags, stickers, prints and keychains. New styles are released at the beginning of every month and a new collection is available every January and September. After a successful Kickstarter campaign in 2015 (thanks backers!), Akumu Ink expanded outside the bounds of the needletrade into publishing with its first, short book, Just Another Birthday.

Our name, Akumu, is derived from the Japanese translation for nightmare, which has always been the dominant theme in their artwork. A blend of both the whimsical and the dark, Akumu Ink creates a style that appeals to all of us who can smile in the face of just about anything life throws our way.

Since day one, Akumu Ink has only been Aldora, an MBA graduate, and Joey, the artist.
In 2014, they made a big decision and relocated from Montreal, Canada to Los Angeles, California to open up their first warehouse/office. The original two owners are still at the helm creatively putting their efforts into increasing brand awareness across the U.S. and expanding their nightmare-inspired product line to the rest of the world. Personally participating in Comiccons across North America keeps them very busy, but offers the opportunity to meet new customers face-to-face – which they adore.

Akumu Ink is available all around the world in boutiques and online shops throughout the United States, Canada, Europe and Australia.
