Announcement   Dec. 22 update: I have enjoyed dyeing yarn for customers and will continue to do so on a very limited basis, just because I've been seduced by quilting and sewing projects. Convo me if you wish to see a certain colorway dyed. If I agree to dye it, it will be ready within a couple of days. I have my usual 80/20 superwash sock yarn in stock, along with 100% superwash merino in worsted and bulky weights. I also have several skeins of 85% superwash wool/15% silk sock yarn available.

Here is raveler craftyjen's Hitchhiker scarf photo, knit with Fall Colors (with Plum):

About

Colorful Yarn from the Frozen Far North

I learned to dye at a workshop at Inua Wool Shop in Fairbanks, Alaska, in about 2005. Cheryl Potter, owner of Cherry Tree Hill Yarn, was visiting her sister there. We hand-painted yarn. After I made 2 more skeins at home, I began dyeing self-striping yarn, learning everything I needed from the Internet. Soon I was dyeing yarn for Inua Wool Shop. A year later I moved to Anchorage and started my etsy shop. I also dye for two local yarn shops--primarily hand-painted Alaskan colorways.

I also do other things: I teach and take German classes at the university, dye fabric, refashion clothing and quilt.

Shop policies

Last updated on July 23, 2013
I dye only the type of high-quality yarn that I personally use for my knitting projects. I use commercial dyes for long-lasting brightness.
I love dreaming up and then dyeing new colorways. The reason I sell yarn is so that I don't have to knit up what I've dyed before I dye more! I also love providing knitters with yarn that they enjoy knitting.
Be advised that there is often some light/dark variation within a given color segment. If it is excessive, I will tell you in the description.
My home is cat-free, smoke-free, and perfume-free. I have a small dog.
BUY NINE SKEINS AND GET THE TENTH FREE! I was keeping track of the number of skeins each customer had purchased over the months since my shop opened, but I am handing over that task to customers. If you want the tenth skein free, TELL ME that your purchase is the tenth skein. I will issue a refund for that tenth skein through Paypal.

Accepted payment methods

  • Accepts Etsy Gift Cards and Etsy Credits
Returns and exchanges
I want you to be 100% satisfied and will do all I can to ensure that you are. I will happily exchange yarn or issue a refund if you request it. Please contact me if you have any concerns after you receive your yarn.
Payment
Payment is via Paypal. I expect payment to arrive within hours of the order, and of course before I ship. If payment does not come within 24 hours of the order, I will relist the item.
Shipping
The morning after I receive an order and payment, I ship the customer's item(s) via first-class U.S. mail, which is supposed to take 4 business days, but has taken anywhere from 3 days to a full week. I usually ask for delivery confirmation and can give you that number so you can track your package if you ask me. If it's a large order, I may include insurance at my own expense. If a package should get lost in the mail (which has not happened yet) and I haven't insured it, I will of course send you replacement yarn at my own expense.
Additional policies and FAQs
Buy 9 skeins and get the 10th skein free! You keep track of your skeins and let me know when you're due a free one.
