Paper Lace Designs was started by me; Alison Henshaw-Simpson. After handcrafting my own Wedding stationery in October 2011.

Having loved Art from a young age I followed this path throughout school completing GCSE's, A-Levels and a BTEC Foundation in the subject. I then went on to complete a Textile Design BSc (Hons) degree at University of Huddersfield in 2002 and after gained work as a Visual Merchandiser for M&S, and although fun it wasn't my real passion. In 2004, I started a job in my preferred career as a Textile Designer for a home furnishings company in Manchester. Designing mainly Bedlinen, curtains and cushions an essential part of the job was to keep an eye on trends in colour and design on the high street and I often found inspiration in cards and stationery.
Having a change of career in 2007 because of the downturn in the UK Textiles market, I studied for a PGCE as a Secondary Teacher of Art at University of Chester and whilst gaining two long term temporary roles at 2 very different schools I find myself returning to what i love......

As a Designer I am inspired by an eclectic mix of, Everyday objects, Old, New, Nostalgia, Textures, Patterns, Architecture, everything quintessentially English and things that are a tad Twee. I am also inspired by a vast number of like minded Artists and Designers that I have stumbled across over the years, who are just that little bit quirky!
