A Passion for Fiber

I started knitting years ago and eventually I was knitting all the time – especially when traffic came to a grinding halt on Los Angeles’ 101/405 freeways. I knew my habit was bordering on obsessive when a fellow commuter laughed at me knitting socks at a stop light, “I’ve never seen THAT before” – yes, well, it’s LA traffic, you do what you can.

Knitting scarves led to knitting sweaters (yup, seemed like the logical 'next step' at the time), then I found sock knitting! I started designing sock patterns and was thrilled when I some of my patterns were accepted into the Independent Designers Program on KnitPicks.com!

My friends on the KnitPicks Community encouraged me to try out dyeing my own yarn as well as spindle spinning, which added more fun to my growing passion for fiber arts. I also have taken up weaving which is another fun art to learn.

I find inspiration for my colorways in everyday life, but also look to my own photographs and try to replicate them in wool and yarn. Here is a sample list of the yarn bases I use:

MAUI: superwash merino/nylon/cashmere fingering yarn, 4-ply @ 430 yards

OAHU: superwash merino/nylon/stellina (sparkle) fingering yarn, 2-ply @ 430 yards

KAUAI: 80/20 superwash merino/nylon fingering yarn, 2-ply tight twist @ 400 yards

HAWAII: 75/25 superwash merino/nylon fingering yarn, 4-ply @ 460 yards

LANAI: 80/20 superwash merino/silk fingering yarn, 2-ply @ 400 yards

MOLOKAI: superwash merino/silk lace yarn, 2-ply @ 875 yards

NIIHAU: superwash merino/silk/stellina lace yarn, 2-ply @ 875 yards

KAHOOLAWE: superwash merino light fingering yarn, 6-ply @ 800 yards

Frequently asked questions

Color Accuracy on products

I strive to photograph each item as color accurate as possible, however each monitor will show the images differently. Please allow for some color differences due to the inconsistencies with monitor color calibration.

Care instructions

Handwashing all handmade and hand-dyed products in COOL water with a mild wool soap, then laying flat to dry will aid in prolonging the life of the garment. Using hot water can break the chemical bonds in the dyed item causing the dye to bleed, so please use cool water for washing.
