From Crooked Seams and Bad Patterns
I have always had a bug for sewing. It started long ago, when I made a makeup bag for my modeling class in 4th grade. It was a simple teal blue cotton with basically two sides and two straps, that were uneven. I sewed the entire thing by hand, several times, because the stitches were too long.
The following year my mother got a sewing machine for Christmas, I knew right there, something special would come out of it.
In about 10th grade I started designing and making outfits, I was not allowed to purchase patterns, so I made my own. they were basically blocks and then sewn together, very shapeless and I was lucky they were somewhat able to be pulled onto my body.
I then decided that clothing at that time was not for me. I began quilting. Over the years I made many quilts for my classes and friends, many to pleasing results.
When I began to work at my mother's bridal store is when I found the calling of alterations. Kathy of Pittsburgh, PA took me under her wing and taught me the fine points of alterations. It was a magical part of my life and I treasure the moments looking back on it.
Finally we come to the birth of my online career and it was initially in Cosplay. I really loved making cosplays but it became time to focus on my family, and that I did.
I then decided that I wanted to wear hats like Catherine the Duchess of Cambridge, but unable to afford one I decided to figure out how to make them myself. Then I wanted her clothes so I put my talents to work again, and thus has brought on all of my Repli-Kates.
I also put a good bit of myself into what I make and list and I consider my style a sparkly version of Catherine, simple and classic, but with sparkle.
It is now an adventure every day, thinking and wondering, what could be next around my corner.
I am able to keep my prices affordable due to my contacts for supplies that are imported from overseas.
