From Trash to Treasure: Preserving the Planet through Sustainable ReCreations

In 2009, Altered Perception was unofficially developed as a craft fair project of a newly-wedded couple. After overhauling tradition in favor of eclectic and woodland-inspired décor for their wedding, Katie and James filled their crafting hole with local craft fairs for the Christmas season. Felt Christmas trees abounded while Katie developed her obsession with crafting artsy earrings and James perfected his newfound gift for turning trash into treasure through his signature cardboard owls.

Years later, Altered Perceptions established an online presence by adding their ornaments, tree toppers, and artsy home décor and jewelry to the growing list of Etsy contributors. With a mission of sustainability and vision of reduced consumption of resources, we aim to use at least 75% repurposed goods to develop the items you will find in this shop. Using this type of material as a building block poses new challenges each season, but the joy experienced from reducing our impact and saving trash from landfills is immeasurable.

Our materials are ever changing- sourced from donations, resale shops, and our own recycling bin. What this means for you is guaranteed low prices and a vast variety of altered goods. Be sure to stop by often for new items and sales!

We've had a lot of custom tattoo sketches completed this year - is yours next? We've added multiple woodland creatures as well as custom cardboard requests (big and small). Let us know how we can make your vision a reality.

I am the blood, sweat, and tears of this shop. The owls and other home decor are inspired, designed, and developed by my artistic side. It's been a long year full of backpacking adventures, new homes, and an organic garden project -- but we're back!
