Alvaton Design Studio Was Founded on Three Tenets: Beauty, Quality, and Sustainability to Create Fabulous Original Jewelry and Textiles.

Why Beauty?
I'm really hoping this one is obvious when you see my body of work! Rather than following the latest fad, my goal is to create timeless loveliness, stand-out pieces with lasting appeal that will enhance your own unique, personal style for years to come. I have personally designed and carefully hand-crafted each one-of-a-kind, original piece of usable artwork. Because of this, you will not go to a party and see someone else wearing the exact same piece of jewelry.

Why Quality?
I don't want to pay good money for something that is going to fall apart after one wearing, and I know you don't either. Alvaton Design Studio strives to use the best quality materials, such as:

*Glass seed beads from Japan (such as Miyuki) and the Czech Republic
*Swarovski crystals and pearls
*Durable name-brand threads, such as Fireline, Nymo, and Silamide, for construction
*Natural stones
*Genuine leather and suede
*Superior metals such as sterling silver and brass

I also aim for excellence by using time-honored methods of construction and reinforcement. Each item is examined with a critical eye before listing. This attention to detail is reflected in the pricing. An old, but true, adage is "you get what you pay for".

Why Sustainability?
Elevating thrifted, cast-off, and found objects into artwork is more than good environmental stewardship, it's just plain old good sense. I endeavor to incorporate at least one upcycled element into each original design, adding to the originality.

I know you will find as much pleasure in ownership as I have found in lovingly designing and creating each handmade article.

If you're still reading, you are a curious cat! Here's something a bit more personal.

I love that such a simple tool as a needle in combination with thread can be used to create beautiful and purposeful items. I was introduced to the art of needlework when at 9 years of age I suffered a serious illness. Our neighbor, Anna (a retired schoolteacher and generally fabulous grandma-figure), taught me some of her favorite techniques with such patience and kindness. First, we created a patchwork, gingham "quilt" (using running stitch) for my doll to use in her oatmeal canister cradle. Then, we progressed to embroidery stitches, including cross stitch, stem stitch, lazy daisy, and the ever elusive French knot! In the course of learning to wield a needle I acquired an adoration for attention to detail. Now that wasn't really so unexpected for a perfectionist personality!!! I still treasure those early efforts -- they are memories of Anna and of the seed that was planted in my heart. I have taught myself other embroidery stitches along the way and still delight in learning new ones.

Some years ago, beads caught my eye and over time I checked out all the books from the public library I could find, to learn and hone new techniques to add to my existing repertoire. I enjoy the challenge of mastering a new (to me) form of art. I believe this positive energy is evident in my creative work.

Nature is inspirational -- God's creation that I see all around me every day is a constant inspiration. The color combinations, textures, and emotions evoked are all elements I attempt to translate in my work.

I am also inspired by antique and vintage craftsmanship -- these enduring pieces speak volumes about timelessness and quality.

I am a juried member of the Simpson County Guild of Artists and Craftsmen. "Juried" means I had to submit examples of my work to the Guild Committee and the members had to determine that the quality, originality, and creativity of my artwork met their standards for excellence.
