About

Ceramics Meets Print

Amanda M Barr received a BA and MA in Spanish Literature before choosing to pursue a career in ceramics. She just finished a post-baccalaureate in Ceramics at University of Colorado Boulder, and is currently a resident artist at Pottery Northwest in Seattle, Washington. Her work is developed from a background in printmaking, and is an expression of her use of literature and television as vehicles for escaping reality.

Artist Statement

My ceramic work is an exploration of color, graphic imagery and text on porcelain. I enjoy the intimacy of using functional objects as narrative vehicles for my inner monologue. These objects then become part of the user’s narrative, becoming part of their daily life through the ritual of use and by decorating their living spaces. Each piece is a reflection of myself, and in choosing to accept it into their life, it also reflects the user.

I am often inspired by my background in literature, thematically as well as being a source for much of my text and my love of vintage illustrations. Through books one can travel through time, to faraway lands… anywhere the imagination can create. My work is an extension of my love of reading; it is about expression and escapism, imagination and history. I want to make work that will capture the imagination and create a dialogue with the viewer, force them to think and dream and make their own journeys.

Shop policies

Last updated on June 25, 2016
Hola! Thank you for taking the time to look around my shop. I make both functional and decorative ceramics. Everything is lead-free, and food safe unless marked otherwise. It is also dishwasher-safe. If you have any questions regarding my process or the finished pieces, feel free to contact me via Etsy, or through email (amandabarr@gmail.com). You can also check out my blog at www.amandambarr.com, where I post frequently about what's going on in my studio!

A microwave-safe disclaimer: My work is fine for re-heating water-based items and drinks. But, really, handmade pottery will weaken over time with prolonged microwave-use, eventually leading to cracking. So for the sake of keeping your pottery for many years, avoid the microwave. Same goes for dishwashers- they are safe, but your pieces will last much longer with handwashing.

Custom orders are welcome.

Refunds and Exchanges
Pottery is fragile. It is also one-of-a-kind. Let me know if you would like to purchase shipping insurance for any piece(s); in case of any breakage, I would be happy to work with you to come to an arrangement.

If you are unhappy with your purchase, please let me know! I want my pots to be in happy homes. Buyer pays shipping costs on the return item and is responsible for its secure delivery back to me. Money will not be refunded until the item has been (safely) received by me.

-No returns accepted after 30 days.
