About Me

Hi, there! My name is Amara and I’m an archivist, art historian, and illustrator; basically, I love art! (and 🌮s. Can't forget about tacos!)

I grew up in warm, sunny Arizona (I miss the sun and heat!) and wanted to go to college for illustration once I graduated from high school. I got accepted to the School of Visual Arts in Manhattan, but unfortunately it was waaaaay too expensive for me to attend (even with scholarships!), so I moved to the next best city: Chicago! I attended Columbia College Chicago and absolutely fell in LOVE with that school. I ended up changing my major a bunch (including illustration, graphic design, advertising art direction, and fashion design) before finally deciding on art history. I figured why not get a degree in my two favorite areas of scholarship: art and history?!

Fast forward a few years and I graduated with my master’s in art history (yay!). I was offered a job at a university upon graduation and I currently work there as an assistant archivist. I'm also a professor in art history at Columbia (told you I love that school!).

In addition to art, I also LOVE to travel! My two favorite places to go at least once a year are currently Miami Beach and Venice in L.A. I’m 1000% a beach bum which makes living in the Midwest difficult at times.

While I love art history, illustration was my first true love and I'm so excited to be able to share my passion for illustration with you in my Etsy shop! :) Everything is hand-drawn by me and is filled with oodles of love!

Thanks for stopping by my shop and be sure to say howdy! :)

Lots of love,
Amara

Oh, and feel free to reach out and connect with me on Instagram, TikTok, or my website! On Instagram, I share little snippets of my day-to-day life. TikTok is my super fun space where I get to create my 60-second art history videos. Seriously, go check them out! It’s a fun way to learn about art without all the boring “academese.” And my website has a whole slew of interesting investigative posts about the history of things as well as a whole bunch of gluten, dairy, peanut, & soy-free recipes (check out my Party Nuts recipe!).
