About

A vegan candy company with a big dream: to make the world a better place through caramel

Hello there! I'm so glad you've visited my shop :) My name is Melissa Clements, and I am the owner/confectioner/bookkeeper/dishwasher behind Amethyst Confectionery. I find joy and purpose in crafting delicious vegan candy for others to enjoy, but that’s not where I started. Before Amethyst, I worked in public and non-profit housing. The experiences I had there led me to wish for a more direct way to make an impact on a critical issue impacting many Americans: homelessness. There is an alarming lack of funding for housing programs that work to alleviate the issues that cause homelessness, including cost of housing, health and disability, employment and income, and the criminalization of homelessness.

Amethyst will donate 10% of profits from product sales to the National Coalition for the Homeless. Their mission is to prevent and end homelessness while ensuring the immediate needs of those experiencing homelessness are met and their civil rights protected. If you’re interested in learning more, you can read about NCH’s programs here: http://www.nationalhomeless.org/

Our long-term goal is to substantially support NCH and other organizations that administer programs supporting the homeless.

The name Amethyst was inspired by my grandmother Betty Jean. Her birthstone and favorite gem was amethyst, and she loved everything purple. BJ was one of the most generous humans I have ever met – if she knew someone needed food, or clothing, or a place to stay, she’d make sure they got it. BJ passed away in 2013, and I still miss her and think of her kindness every day.

Care instructions

Please be sure that you do not leave your candy package outside in hot weather - caramel will melt, and hard candy and brittles will stick together. They'll still taste good when they cool down, but the shape and texture will not be the same!

Wholesale availability

We do have wholesale availability! Please email melissa@amethystconfectionery.com with inquiries. We'd love to work with you!

Candy expiration dates

All of our caramels and hard candies (except lollipops) are shipped in heat-sealed bags, and hard candies include non-toxic desiccant packets to prevent sticking.

Caramels will remain fresh for one month or more in the sealed bag. Once opened, shelf life will depend on temperature and humidity. We recommend storing in a cool, dry place.

Hard candies will remain fresh for up to several months in the sealed bag. Once opened, shelf life will depend on temperature and humidity. We recommend storing in a cool, dry place.

Lollipops are best consumed within two to three weeks of receipt and should be stored in a cool, dry place.

Any candy will melt or warp if left in hot temperatures. Never store candy in direct sunlight.
