The February thaw arrived after a devastating cold snap of 35 below zero wind chill and many trips to my llama, Vanilla, who is old and does not tolerate cold as well as my frisky pony Star who stared into the night at the swaying and cracking trees nervously. Many trips were made to install a battery in Vanilla's heated vest under his double blanket. He was not fond of this and the heat did not last long in this severe cold. Star enjoyed a regular horse blanket to shield from the wind and we were all glad when the wind eased and temps went up to 20 before our heat wave now in the forties during daylight.
At last I return to my once again cozy studio upstairs, warm woodstoves, with cats stretched out happily basking in the heat. I love the the brilliant light that comes from sun on new snow. The sounds of nature are nourishing to me and the nearby brook is rushing as the melt is in progress. Crows caw on high. Star likes to prance in the remaining snow in the meadow and roll and roll happily!
My husband remains in a nursing home in spite of how much I want him home. We have been going to many doctor appointments this month and it is good to get out and drive in our gorgeous country of farms with distant hills and mountains. We are still together those days in the land we made our home. I am grateful he is cared for and nearby so I can visit everyday.

5 out of 5 starsBeautiful colors! This trivet looks exactly like the picture. I'm quite pleased with how deep and rich the colors are. I also purchased a glass cutting board from this shop with a different pattern and it's stunning as well, with no loss of pigment.

5 out of 5 starsDeep, rich colors! This glass cutting board with the art print on it looks just like the picture with its beautiful deep colors. It goes with my granite counters and looks lovely. I've used it a few times and so far, so good. It's easy to clean. I have another glass cutting board of the same size which works the same way. It's a little noisier cutting up veggies and other food when the knife hits the cutting board just by nature of being glass, but otherwise it's quite useful and doesn't take up much space.

I grew up in New England and attended Massachusetts College of Art. Then I fell in love with batik and my husband Richard, who whisked me away to a dairy farm in upstate New York. Many beautiful sights inspire my farmscape batik.
