Custom Pet Portraits and handmade gifts by Amy Yeager

I spray paint the background, then sketch in the image. Painting in layers of acrylic paint, the pet comes to life.
I sew the tops of my "thank you bags" with little dog biscuits inside.
Custom pendant necklaces are baked in a small oven and put together with chains, hooks and clasps.
I gift wrap my creations with tissue paper and ribbon and ship them off to their destination.
Mya, my little gal, watches me work on my creations and is super supportive!

I just wanna paint and be a business gal!

As a 6 year old little gal in a farm house in upstate NY, I set up Amy's Creative Corner in an extension of my "play room." I would sell my handmade creations to my family and grandparents, who would give me a quarter for a t-shirt that I painted on. It was archaic, but I knew from when I was young that I wanted to be an artist and run my own business.

In 2008, in Raleigh, NC, I began setting up as a vendor at the local flea markets, art shows, craft fairs and began my Etsy shop. After getting my Tax ID number around this time, I felt Amy's Creative Corner was official business!

I started off with setting up lots of cute little goodies, including handmade trays, stationery, magnets, scarves, light-switch plates, wall art, etc. I was all over the place. I couldn't control my creations. It was like an addiction. I'd stay up late just working away on little crafts and hoping they'd sell. Obviously, I worked other jobs to be able to survive and live...I guess going to college for graphic design wasn't a bad idea either, since I could create my marketing and advertising materials.

But it wasn't enough. I knew something was missing in my business.

In 2009, I painted a mural for a customer who asked me to include their two dogs in the painting. I had never done this before, so I was quite intimidated. It turned out to be a success! It inspired me to try painting my own dog, Mya. After finishing it, I thought to myself, how have I not done this yet!?!

And there it was. I found my next product. The product that motivates me to work hard everyday in my business. Custom Pet Portraits.

People email me their photos and usually share some sort of story about their pet. This is where it gets emotional! Sometimes people will tell me they are getting a portrait painted because their pet just recently passed and they have been grieving and a painting would be so meaningful. People tell me little things about the pet's personality, like how they have certain looks or behaviors that they want me to try and capture in the painting. Some of these people may sound a little, how do I say this nicely, crazy, but I speak that language. I understand what it is like to have a little furry friend who just rocks! I like to say, although dogs are not your whole life, they make your life whole.

Another part of my business is creating custom pendant necklaces and handmade stationery using either photos customers email me or using a small print of their painted portrait.

I think about my business everyday of my life and wonder what else can I be doing to improve it and make it grow. I can't wait to see what is in store for Amy's Creative Corner.

I love hearing from customers and people who are interested in Amy's Creative Corner, so please don't hesitate to ask me about any of my products, including murals and photography.

Thank you so much for your support!
