Modern art with a vintage kiss

Andrea Young was born a creative. As a young girl, she enthusiastically dressed up as Van Gough for Career Day. Her father and 3 sisters were all artists, so it seemed only natural for Andrea to gravitate towards a career in the arts. She says, “Being an artist is definitely part of my identity. I feel driven to create these beautiful images in my head into a visual form. I strive to create something that brings joy to those around me that others can use in their lives as well. I love bringing joy through my art.”

Andrea graduated from The Art Institute of California Los Angeles in 2004, she studied animation and media arts. It was there that she would learn how to advance her skillset, she could now take her original drawings, and scan them into Photoshop and Illustrator. These new technical elements took her work to the next level. She’s been unstoppable ever since. Andrea prefers digital work, it is her favorite medium of choice because it allows her to experiment more. “The digital medium gives me a sense of control. I can still create but also edit and experiment.”

Creating professionally since 2005, Andrea works in graphic design, illustration, web design, product design, screen printing, catalog design, and photography. Her work tends to focus on the female form and has a very distinctive style. The pin-ups she creates are flirty and fun, mixed with strength, sex appeal, personality and power. “I love capturing the vibe or the essence of someone in my illustration for commissions. In my personal work, I really enjoy capturing a feeling or vibe using visuals centered around the female form. I definitely use the female form to express myself.”

In 2018, Andrea survived SSRI withdrawal syndrome. Her art has played a tremendous role in her healing process, it’s truly helped her cope and recover. Her work became an outlet to express her emotions without words, process complex feelings and find relief. “Making creative visuals brings me joy and joy is a huge motivator to me. I've been focused on feeling good and in the last couple years I have worked very hard in having balance and sitting with discomfort and not trying to chase away bad feelings using outside forces.”

Based in Palmdale, CA (or Southern California), Andrea has exhibited work at The Queen Mary, The Pink Parlor at Santa Anita Race Track, Ink 4 a Cause, The Dirty Detroit Show and many more, her photography of the talented Shannon Brooke was used by low brow artist Big Toe and was featured in his book “Gratisfiactaion.”
Andrea’s work has been featured in numerous books and magazines since 2006. Check out her website for her most recent work www.AndreaYoungArt.com
Andrea’s strongest quality as an artist is understanding. “I love gathering information from my clients putting it through by brain and having a visual representation come from it. Knowing I understood and expressed someone's need makes me feel fulfilled.” ♡ Bio written by Christina Diaz
