About

Built to last

My Etsy shop started as an outlet for my creativity; my grandmother instilled in me the value of heirlooms, pieces of jewellery that can be passed down from grandmother to grandchild...a lalique glass pendant, an ornate ring, a family necklace.... My intention is to own a brand that makes ‘built to last’ pieces which can be handed down in love, each piece with a lustre of history.

The jewellery I create are like my babies, birthed from the excesses of my creative mind. I am a very creative person and expression has always been a means of relaxing......I play the piano, make clothes, bags, come up with party themes, interior decorating, putting ideas together and enjoying the final manifestation of these ideas. Although I engage in this from time to time Jewellery is my passion, my favoured means of expression and owning a shop is a way for my pieces to be enjoyed by the rest of the world.

My business is mostly based in my bedroom; my bed, a corner of my reading table, my cherished plum carpet. No matter what part of the world I am in, you’ll see me hunched over my tools, my legs crossed, squinting away, as I am near sighted. I need my work space to be comfortable and calming, even if it is on the living room floor chatting with my housemates.

Quality, beauty, delicacy and intricate work inspire the bits and stones I use as supplies. Over time I have evolved from using beads and coloured wire to Swarovski crystals, freshwater pearls, precious/semi-precious stones, silver, gold plated and pure gold wire and balls.

I do all my business work on my own, so my skills have expanded from jewellery making to picture taking, managing my Esty shop, dressing models, learning the art of cyber selling and creating an online presence.

The uniqueness of my brand is seen in the limited quantities available of each piece, made with love and a lot of thought. I see my pieces as children of my imagination; I spend a lot of time deciding on the colour, stone, design and durability of each item, I even wear a copy over a period of time to test the durability and provide customers with the best.

Customer service for me entails a one on one conversation with the future owner of my pieces, through emails, phone calls or personal consultations when possible. This helps me understand each client’s wants, likes and dislikes, favourite colours and what has inspired them to purchase a Baiye original piece, all this contributes to making the piece more special.

Knowing each piece would make an impact, given or bought in love, cherished, looked after and preserved carefully in trinket boxes, keeps me creating and striving.

I want my pieces to be used to mark special occasions; births, birthdays, anniversaries, engagements, new relationship’s, gifts from a loved one, a keepsake or bought as an ego boost for yourself.........a general feel good item that picks you up once you have it on.

I am a lawyer by profession but a creator by inclination, heart and spirit. I love using my hands and my passion lies with jewellery making. I love the whimsical idea of heirlooms; pieces built to last, passed on from grandmother to grand-daughter
