Announcement   Hello! My name is Anna. I am a fiber artist.
I find that love and art, understood in the broadest sense, form the essence of human existence. Haven't some said that beauty will save the world? Only with love can such beauty be actualized.
Since childhood, I've wanted to do something which would bring happiness to people, especially to those around me. But as I drew incessantly, I found myself in an art university, and decided to pursue applied art.
Objects created by someone's caring hand always bring more joy to those who end up using them. In this regard, wearable art is especially unique- it brightens the life of not only the wearer, but of those nearby as well.
Every piece I create, I infuse with my soul, my love, and my hope; often, it also has a story to tell.

About

Fairy tales, mystical creatures, birds, flowers, and people come alive on silk.

When people ask me how I started painting silk, I usually answer in a typical manner and say that I always wanted to make everyday life brighter. Although this is the truth, I rarely give the full explanation.
In reality, I fell in love in with this medium when I was in high school. Our painting teacher was a professional fiber artist, and sometimes we stayed late after class just to see her magic. This was my first experience with wizardry-- watching a few splashes of silk dye become a flower, a bird, or anything else her artistic mind could conjure. The outlines made with resist would flow, dance, and swirl around the stretched silk. It was always a pleasure to see her working, but just as captivating to simply hold a delicate piece of silk painted by the hand of such a Master. The possibility of making art for a living and bringing joy to others as well inspired me.

Several years later I graduated from an industrial art college in St. Petersburg with a degree in design, but like most women, I have since played many roles in life. Finding the balance between my early motherhood, earning an income, and art was never easy. 19 years ago I moved to the US and this transition was also challenging for me.
I now think that I must have been born under a lucky star, because I found that within just 20 minutes of my house was the Torpedo Factory Art Center. When I was able to return to art, having a studio there became my obsessive dream, and after three years of attempts I was able to pass the jury process.
Now I have a beautiful studio with a view of the Potomac- I can see the rainbow after a storm and feel the wind coming through my open window! Sometimes, I even feel like I am at home in St. Petersburg and the river Neva is in front of me.
My heart is full of gratitude to my supportive friends, my children, my clients, and all the people who are helping me realize my goals. I feel thankful for my journey in life and art. With time, it continues to transform, unfold, and bring me new experiences.
