Twisting Long Strings with Little Sticks
My Grandma crochets granny square afghans for everyone in the family. I used to stare at mine and wonder how it was made. I tried to follow the yarn as it was twisted and knotted. I finally asked my Mom to teach me. My Mom didn't know how, so she taught me to knit instead. My first garter stitch scarf was full of holes and took a sharp turn so it looked like a sock.
I progressed, and taught myself to crochet later. Soon I began giving hand made gifts to friends and family. I kept working and, now out of friends and relatives, my closet stated to get full of handmade knits. I discovered Etsy in 2008 and jumped right in! Turns out people like to buy the things I was making, and it helps keep my inventory down. I still do give my knits as gifts and make some for myself.
I find it so rewarding to think of an idea, sketch it out, break down the math, and then knit just what I was thinking. My creative inheritance from my Mom and Grandma.
