About

Curiousity

It all started with being curious. What was that thing? How old was it? I always had a million questions.

I grew up with my family being savers--not hoarders like you see on the TV shows. But we saved things, reused them or re-purposed things. My grandparents and parents went through the depression, so I was taught the value of thrift. I remember spending a week with one grandmother. We baked cookies and cooked together. If we cooked something on the stove top, my grandmother put on the kettle for a cup of tea. Not that she always wanted it, but she could not stand to see energy wasted.

My other grandmother was thrifty, but also a very excellent needlewoman. She was well known in the community for her tiny quilting stitches on her quilts. In turn, she taught me to quilt when I was 4 years old. Then embroidery (or what she called fancy work) and crochet. One of her favorite things was cross stitching, too. She was very prolific and all of us got quilts for our beds, as well as quilts as wedding gifts later in life. I also spent a week during the summer with her--and she taught me that your needlework should look almost as good on the back side as the front. Showing off my neat stitches to the neighbors gave her great pleasure.

But she also had a sense of humor. My father despised morning glories. They would get into his garden and caused him fits. My grandmother made my Mom and Dad a quilt with flower blocks. And on my Dad's side at his foot--she placed a block of morning glories--so he could "kick" them!

So my love for "stuff" and needlework has enabled me to be an antique dealer for almost 30 years. I often joke--things find ME!

So please enjoy the temptations here and know I will be putting more on the site for your pleasure. I always love it when my special "children" find new homes!
