Note from shop owner Hello! Thanks for stopping by and we're sorry we missed you. We'll be around Smithgall Woods and probably Hardman Farm in the Helen, Georgia area. We'll also be at the NGHS Annual Marketplace in Gainesville, GA. Check out the Helen Arts Center and the EAGLE program in Sautee Nacoochee, GA as well.

In October we'll be at the Country Living Fair in Atlanta!! See you there!

We're making fabric baskets like crazy and we've added a new line of handmade wire baskets. We'll make more flower sticks and those wonderful pet beds as well.

We still love custom orders so get in touch at appalachiangap [!at] aol.com when you're ready.

Thanks for all your support, Gene and Art

This is such a beautiful bag! AppalachianGap shipped it out almost immediately and it arrived in wrapping paper and a ribbon. The quality is excellent, and it will be perfect for a passport holder! Thanks!

Perfect gift for my granddaughter. Blanket even had a personal touch of her name on the side. Great colors she loved. Just right for nap time for preschool. Thanks again Gene! :-)

About

Handmade, practical and probably colorful

Hello and thanks for visiting Appalachian Gap. About 15 years ago we fell in love with the mountains of North Georgia, so we decided to move here. We've been married for almost 40 years. We've been in business together off an on for almost 40 years. We love to travel. We like a lot of the same things but boy do we approach them differently!

Gene is motivated by nature, materials, color and practicality all rolled into one beautiful piece. She is really motivated when she finds a way to re-purpose something like an old sheet, a fence picket or even a plastic grocery bag. Finding out how to do things the way they were done way before so much technology came along intrigues her.

She loves baskets of all kinds but prefers to make baskets out of beautiful fabrics. She doesn't use any glue or a sewing machine. Everything is handwoven, similarly to a pine needle or Native American Basket.

Art likes technology such as drills and saws. He also enjoys making wire baskets by hand and re-purposing scraps of wood. He has turned doors into shelving, wood slats in to wine racks and shingles into coat racks.

We may come at everything from a different point of view, but we both end up with well made one of a kind pieces.

We're glad you're here.

If you have any questions, just holler, er, uh, send us an email.

Accepted payment methods

Payment
Paypal is the only form of payment we accept online.
Shipping
Once your payment has been successfully processed, We will ship your order within 3 business days and send you a quick email to let you know that your package is on its way. Orders are sent via USPS so you'll also have a tracking number.

We are happy to ship internationally—contact us in advance for a shipping quote. All customs fees are the responsibility of the buyer.

Need something in a hurry? Contact me for an alternate shipping method.
Refunds and Exchanges
We want you to be thrilled with your purchase. We do understand it can sometimes be difficult buying online. We show several pictures of each item, including top, bottom and all sides. We try to describe it quite accurately and extensively, including color so that you can be comfortable with your purchase. Have a ruler handy as you make a choice as judging the size of something from a picture can be a bit tricky. Remember also that color can vary greatly between computers.

We will offer a refund if the item turns out not to be as described or is faulty (but not damaged in transit). Requests for refund should be made to us by email within three days of receipt. If we decide to go ahead with the refund, we will process it as soon as we receive the item in its original condition and packaging. The buyer will be responsible for shipping the item back to us.
Additional policies and FAQs
We always wrap items as if they are presents, then we package for shipping. So, if you wanted to remove the packaging and take it directly to the recipient, you could. OR, you could open a present to yourself!

Custom orders-if you have something specific in mind email me and we can talk about it. We most enjoy creating with a specific request in mind.
