About AppleTreeKnits

On Etsy since 2012

If you give a mouse a cookie....

For anyone who's read that children's story, you'll immediately understand. I started knitting because I was an intern at a mental health counseling center, and I needed something small and portable to keep me occupied. But I loved it too much to stop there. Soon I started designing my own projects, when nothing already out there was just right. Then I wanted to learn how to write patterns, and not long after that I was officially a knitting pattern designer!

But as a designer, I'd get frustrated by the dearth of yarns that suited my vision for a particular design...and I realized that if I dyed my own, I could always have access to the perfect yarn for my pattern ideas. So in 2010 I started seriously learning how to dye yarn, and the dyeing side of Apple Tree Knits was launched in May 2012.

Since then I've added an enormous range of Gradients and new resist-dyed colors to compliment the original kettle-dyed colorways. And the yarn bases have expanded and diversified - I'm particularly proud of the range and combination of fibers available through ATK.

But other things haven't changed since this whole thing started, and they never will. Customer satisfaction is still the absolute top priority, and in that vein I take quality control and customer service very seriously. And we'll always specialize in top-notch professional dyeing - we've become a standard-bearer in the highest quality, smoothest Gradient dyeing.

There's always a new chapter being written here at Apple Tree Knits, so make sure to check in regularly to see what's new!

I'm the two hands behind Apple Tree Knits. I became completely obsessed with knitting a few years ago, and that's blossomed into this little operation here. When I'm not dyeing or knitting, I'm playing with our 5 rescues and/or drinking coffee :-)

Welcome to Apple Tree Knits! ATK products are inspired by the intersections between color and texture, form and function; I want you to enjoy yarn that knits (or crochets!) as nice as it looks, and designs that are both beautiful and wearable. My yarns tend toward semi-solid, tonal, and gradient colorways, because these produce the depth and richness you expect in hand-dyed yarn without overwhelming the project (though you will find variegated colorways as well, perfect for patterns where the yarn is the star). ATK patterns have a definite emphasis on accessories, and in particular scarves and shawls - because I design what I love to knit, and because who doesn't love a one-skein project?

All yarn is dyed by hand (my two hands, actually!) in very small batches using professional, eco-friendly dyes and labor-intensive techniques. Most colorways are repeatable, so if you see something you like but it's sold out or you'd like it on a different yarn, please contact me. I also love to do custom colorways, please feel free to message me so I can help you create your perfect yarn!

Due to the nature of digital property, I am unable to offer refunds on pattern purchases. Please read listings carefully before purchasing. If you are unhappy with any aspect of a pattern, please contact me so I can work with you to find a positive resolution.

Yarn may be returned for any reason within 30 days of purchase, provided it is still in original condition (in original skein or ball form, has not been unwound or used, has original skein band, does not smell of smoke, etc.) and provided the buyer contacts me and obtains a return number. Items sent without a return number will not be accepted, and no refund will be issued; likewise no refund will be issued for items that are not in original condition. The buyer is responsible for return postage.

If a buyer believes their yarn is defective in some way they should contact me immediately regardless of when the purchase occurred, so we can work to correct the problem.
