Well packaged, arrived swiftly. This vase is perfectly lovely, have it out for all to see. Presently has a small branch of oak in it and looks very pretty. I adore the design, the words and meaning, and the overall Tolkien awesomeness.

Behind the Scenes at The Ring and the Lion

"Thus, the only craft little practiced among them was shoe-making; but they had long and skillful fingers and could make many useful and comely things."
—The Fellowship of the Ring

"It was written, not printed; written in a clear, even hand, with thick downstrokes and thin upstrokes, very large, easier than print, and so beautiful that Lucy stared at it for a whole minute and forgot about reading it."
—The Voyage of the Dawn Treader

I started taking china painting lessons when I was 15 years old. When I got married, I thought I'd quit painting, but my husband encouraged me to buy my own kiln and start my own business.

China painting and decoupage are to two main art forms I use for my shop. I love how the porcelain art on pottery, as well as the watercolor-painted decoupage incorporating vintage pages, inspire a sense of being transported into another world—whether it be through a hobbit hole or through a wardrobe. These art forms help make each art piece completely unique and give it an authentic feel.

The process of penwork on porcelain is a lengthy one. It involves creating a pattern, transferring the pattern onto porcelain using graphite paper, mixing the dry paint with oil, dipping the nip pen, and making one careful stroke at a time before firing. Goldwork is similar except it must all be freehanded. It is done by placing a drop of gold mixed with painting medium into a tiny funnel pen.

The most delightful thing about having this shop is the strong bond that is forged by us, as fellow lovers of this gripping literature. Often, I feel as though I "graduate" from interacting on a buyer-seller level and go beyond that to become friends with those who browse and buy here. And that is one of the greatest joys of all.

I accept Paypal on a case-by-case basis, simply because the Etsy checkout is easier and less complicated for me. If you need to use Paypal, simply send me a convo.
I use USPS Priority Mail for almost all order fulfillments. A note about my shipping prices and practices. For most of my items, I ship USPS Priority Mail. This is usually 2-5 day shipping. I fill orders the day of or day after having received them. I'm proud to say that my customers are very happy with the quick and safe arrival of their Tolkien and Lewis treasures!

Because most of my items are one-of-a-kind, I pack extra well. This necessitates extra time and packing materials. These costs as well as the fees charged by Etsy and Paypal are reflected in my shipping charges. Thanks for your support and for shopping at The Ring and the Lion!
Refunds and Exchanges
Please message me if you're item arrived damaged and I will replace that item for you or issue you a prompt refund.
Additional policies and FAQs
Please allow 1-2 weeks for custom china painting orders. It takes awhile to produce a painted item, as each layer of paint or gold requires a separate firing.

While I will be happy to work with you to create custom orders, keep in mind that it may cost more and also that I cannot violate copyright laws. For example, you could handwrite a chapter from Fellowship of the Ring for a personal project if you want, but I can't handwrite it and then turn around and sell it to you.

Each item I carry is unique because I repurpose many vintage and one-of-a-kind finds to create my art and decor pieces. Therefore, it would be almost impossible to recreate an item. Once it is sold, that's it. I could maybe do something like it, but it all depends on the materials at hand.

Thank you for browsing my Etsy shop!
