Hand painted silk accessories– unique pieces that no-one else will have:

I believe that accessories are the most versatile items in your entire wardrobe. You can reinvent your whole look by changing only your scarf, tie or jewellery.

The accessories I make are unique pieces of wearable art, made from the softest silk I can source. They soon become favourites you want to wear every day; I know I do.

Every single piece is individually hand painted by me, using hot wax and dye on pure white silk. I've combined my Indian heritage with a modern aesthetic fuelled by my training as a graphic designer and my scarves, ties and jewellery feature repetitive pattern, with vibrant colours bringing them to life. They can be worn with plain colours as well as combined with other bold patterns.

All my silks – scarves, kerchiefs, ties and jewellery – are colour-fast, 100% silk and can be hand-washed. No dry-cleaning required! Hand-sewn hems are a feature of the scarves and pocket squares, adding a touch of luxury. Everything is beautifully packaged, ready to gift.

My work is made to be enjoyed every day. I would love for you to wear my scarves and ties often just like I do, whatever the weather. Enjoy them, use them, don’t just keep them in a box to be brought out only on special occasions.

I do my best to make sure that I remain eco-friendly and sustainably sourced. My silk is currently sourced via British and EU suppliers from China (which is still the best producer of top quality silk) and India. All my dyes, wax, packaging, tools, office supplies and materials are eco-friendly and responsibly sourced; electricity and water use is kept to a minimum.

Frequently asked questions
Who makes Arati Devasher silk accessories?

Each scarf, tie, or accessory is individually made and designed by me (designer-maker Arati Devasher) at my London, UK studio. I paints and dye silk by hand, creating luxurious scarves, ties, bags and necklaces. Vibrant colour is key to my work, a legacy of my Indian heritage and upbringing. Intricate florals and sharp geometric motifs are the main focus of my designs. Fish and birds make occasional appearances, always in repetition, thereby creating their own patterns.

What is painted silk?

Painted means exactly that... it's painted by hand and not printed. Each piece is individually designed and begins its life as pure white silk. Hot wax and dyes are brushed in multiple layers on to white silk. My hand-dyed collections are made by brushing dye on to the precisely folded and clamped pieces of silk that create the geometric patterns of traditional Japanese shibori.

There are no printing techniques or stencils used in the design of these accessories: only a logo is neatly screen-printed in a corner when the piece is completed.

The fabric is 100% silk.

Why silk and not any other fabric?

Silk is a luxurious, versatile, sustainable and natural material. It is warm in the winter and a cool wicking surface in the summer. It holds up well to regular use; wear silks in winter to keep you toasty warm, and in summer to wick sweat and keep you cool.

The item I want is sold out. Can you make another?

Custom and personalised orders

Please send an Etsy conversation or email me at so we can discuss bringing your vision to life. The hand painted silk scarf you order will be ready to ship within 2–4 weeks.

Silk scarves, ties and jewellery always make sophisticated and luxurious gifts for men and women of all ages, and for any occasion from birthdays and anniversaries to graduations, proms and festive holidays. Each scarf, tie and necklace is a unique piece of wearable art – it makes your gift much more special and precious than those bought from a big shop. In addition, there are many ways to use scarves, not just for its original purpose, but as a multi-faceted accessory... a belt, hair-tie or bandeau-blouse, even a sling bag.

How long does shipping take?

All orders will be shipped within 1-3 business days of payment being received, posted via Royal Mail tracked and signed, unless you have selected special or expedited delivery where available.

If you place an order around busier holidays such as Christmas, please remember that shipping around any holiday can be very unpredictable and timely orders or Priority Upgrades are recommended to ensure faster delivery times!

International (non UK) orders can sometimes take up to 3 weeks to arrive. International buyers are responsible for any and all Customs Charges, Taxes & Additional Postal Fees.

Care instructions

Silk is amazingly resilient and requires little care.

– Wash scarves or ties gently in cool water with a mild soap – do not scrub; then roll in a towel to blot. Iron on a low heat while still damp.

– Necklaces, bags and other accessories need not be washed unless soiled... just dab at the stain with a little water and then air dry.

– The silks are colour fast. However, do not leave the items for prolonged periods of time in direct sunlight: the colours may fade as they do with any type of fabric. Normal use will not cause any fading.

– Never spray perfume or deodorant directly on the silks and do not use bleach, stain removers, dry-cleaning products or alcohol-based cleaners on the silk, as this may have unpredictable results.

I am proud to say I have only ever had one item returned since I started my business in 2014, because it didn't arrive in time for Christmas.

Purchased items can be returned unused and in their original packaging for any reason within 30 days of purchase.

Made-to-order items with personalised text, dates or names are nor returnable.

You will be required to cover the cost of shipping for returns and postage will not be refunded.

Loss through the post or courier is not covered under my refund policy. If you would like tracked delivery or insurance, please specify at purchase.

Please allow 14 working days in the UK or 25 working days internationally. If after this time your item still has not arrived then please contact me to investigate.

Why do you charge for shipping?

Just a friendly reminder that there is no such thing as 'free shipping'... It's a service that costs money. If you're getting free shipping, that means the shipper is paying for it. That's why a lot of us who have small one-woman (or man) businesses have a minimum spend to qualify for 'free' shipping. It's also why a lot of us can't offer free shipping across our entire range. I know most people who shop independent are lovely and totally understand this ♥️ I hope you do too.
