Look Good While Doing Good

I've been making things off and on most of my life, but working in a day job that has little in terms of tangible results -- health education -- sparked a creative desire to MAKE STUFF in the late 1990s. After meandering around in various crafts, I settled quite comfortably into jewelry making because I've always loved wearing something unique and personal, even if my outfit was otherwise plain. After enough friends and family members said " you should really sell your stuff", I decided it was time to open an Etsy shop!

But what inspired me donate a portion of my sales proceeds to charity? Well, a couple things.

About the time I was opening my shop, I read two separate blog posts that mashed up in my head. First, my favorite sex blogger was gushing about some fabulous sexy items she found here on Etsy (like vibrator cozies! Who knew?). Leading me to consider. "Methinks *I* could make something sexy, too!"

Then a little while later, I read about an independent singer/songwriter who is donating the proceeds from a song she wrote to charity. Leading me to think, "Hmmmm...I could donate, too!".

I quickly identified the organization I wanted to support -- the BACCHUS Network ( has played an incredibly important role in both my professional and personal life, and contributed to improving the health of the students I work with through peer education. And given that sexual health is one of my fave topics, I have even done content editing for their website,

That accomplished, while I was trying to fall asleep that night, my mind meandered over the idea of making something really unique that was connected in some way to the mission of this organization. I realized that a simple abstract depiction of a vulva was very manageable in wire! Then a few days later, I decided to also make sperm and "splooge" pendants in order to also represent male sexuality in the same fun fashion.

So there you go. Inspiration comes from interesting sources.

Please join me in supporting this important cause by making a purchase and wear it in good health!
