About

A long time ago, in a 6th grade art class far, far away...

Many years ago, I became interested in art thanks to a little sibling rivalry over who could draw better - and it was Star Wars vs. Unicorns in those days. Shortly after, I picked up a Speedball handbook, and began practicing self-taught calligraphy on Christmas cards each year, when postage was much much cheaper than it is now.

Although junior high school, high school, and college taught me many things about art, and although I possess degrees in Graphic Design and Advertising Art and Design, my knowledge of various historic scripts wasn't quite fully expanded upon until I joined the Society for Creative Anachronism - many years after discovering it back in 6th grade, at a local ren faire. Though my roots are in renaissance faires, I am currently a "SCAdian", still remembering the old days with much fondness, and designing jewelry for both fairegoers and SCAdians alike (sometimes with a bit more of an historic inspiration, and sometimes not).

Since starting this journey, I've had the opportunity to send my work forth to many customers around the world, making a special day that much more treasured with a gentle touch on something shining or sparkling, on paper or crafted from metal and glass.

Although my time is presently limited for custom work, I still take requests, and it is truly an honor to serve those who seek out my work specifically.

To all of you, thank you, for I would not be where I am today without each of you.

Since 1984, I've always had an interest in calligraphy, and both historic and fantasy design. Though my art has come a long way since, it pleases me to make others happy through my painted and penned works, and through my jewelrymaking.

Shop policies

Last updated on February 3, 2011
Welcome to Archeress Arts! Please feel free to browse, and if you have any questions about my policies or are looking for something in a specific color, please feel free to contact me for details. All items are hand-crafted with care, all jewelry is nickel-free, mostly glass or crystal unless otherwise indicated, and each piece comes from an allergen-free home.

PLEASE NOTE: ALL ITEMS ARE NOT FOR RESALE OR WHOLESALE, SORRY.

CHILD SAFETY WARNING:
Sorry, but unless otherwise specified, all jewelry/accessory items are not intended for children age 12 and under, due to CHOKING HAZARDS from small parts and stones. Additionally, the following materials *may* contain trace amounts of lead: vintage glass cabochons, austrian crystals, and brass or silverplated bells. While lead levels in these components are minute, I would advise parents that these jewelry pieces are not childrens' toys and should be safely stored away when not in use, away from a child's reach.

FAQ on CUSTOM WORK!

2. DO YOU MAKE THESE IN OTHER COLORS?

Usually yes, depending on materials availability. Please ask! I may have something on the side, already made and not listed yet.

3. CAN YOU MAKE THESE CHOKERS WITH REAL SILVER/GOLD FINDINGS AND REAL GEMSTONES?

Unfortunately, no, I don't. The cost is *extremely* prohibitive to do this, and my suppliers request minimum orders of 5 gross (720 pcs!) plus shipping and commission, for sterling versions of the findings you see here.

Most of what I sell is sterling silver *plated*, or antiqued brass, to pass down affordable pricing to you (likewise, semiprecious and real gemstones are far beyond my budget!). The prices I list are reasonable, and non-negotiable - but you're more than welcome to watch my blog for sales, or read my discounts section. :)

4. HOW DO I REQUEST A CUSTOM ITEM?

There is a link on my main shop page, not far from my avatar on the right side of the page. Click that, and there is a step by step process, which should be easy to follow. If you are stuck, please convo me and I'll help you as best I can.

I will ask you after your inquiry if this is something you are interested in me making right now, and will not proceed without your commitment to an order. Once I have your word that yes, you want this item, the fun (and labor) begins!

I am registered with Alchemy, and can take custom orders via that too.

5.I NEED MY CUSTOM ORDER IN A HURRY. WHAT'S YOUR SCHEDULE LIKE?

My schedule tends to vary, so check with me if you need something right away. I am very up front about whether or not I can do something for you, and will respond to your request as quickly as I can.

Commissions are generally done on a first-come, first-served basis, but I will let you know if there is a queue. Brides, *please* let me know when your wedding date is, and how soon you'll need your jewelry so I can sort you accordingly in the queue, by chronological order.

6. I NEED TO CHANGE SOMETHING ON MY ORDER, DO YOU CHARGE A FEE?

I will change ONE item on the FIRST change for free.

Secondary, and multiple items beyond this, are subject to a labor fee equal to 10% of your *total order*, per hour spent, rounded to the nearest whole hour.

While I understand color preferences are subject to change based on personal taste, your order will be completed sooner if you have a good idea of what you'd like in advance, based on existing stock and sold items from my shop.

7. DO YOU DO CONCEPT SKETCHES OF YOUR WORK BEFORE LABOR BEGINS?

No, sorry, I don't... But you're more than welcome to send me a sketch, if you wish to show me what you're looking for, and don't see it exactly as you want it in my shop. (Other shops call this "R&D").

8. I NEED TO CANCEL MY ORDER - OR PART OF IT.

Unfortunate things happen to all of us. I understand this, but I need to know RIGHT AWAY. Convo me ASAP, in case I have already started labor.

I may be able to resell your item to another customer, however, usually I charge a small cancellation fee. Depending on the situation, I may be able to waive this on a case-by-case basis. Please write to me right away!

9. I WOULD LIKE YOU TO MAKE AN IDENTICAL ITEM TO SOMETHING IN ANOTHER SELLER'S SHOP. CAN YOU DO THAT?

As a rule, I believe every artist's intellectual property (IP) should be respected, and thereby I will not make 100% identical clones to what is seen in another person's shop. I will, however, make something that is "inspired by" what I see, and will explore new designs if I am able to do so.

10. WHERE DO YOU GET YOUR SUPPLIES?

Here, there, and everywhere. You're more than welcome to ask for keyword searches, but I'd prefer my time and efforts be respected, and not copied. By buying from my shop, you're guaranteed an item that was crafted here in the USA, and you are supporting a single artisan working out of her own home.

11. I ABSOLUTELY LOVE MY PURCHASE AND WOULD LIKE TO BE FEATURED IN YOUR BLOG!

Suggestions, pictures of customers wearing my work (PG please!) and customer testimonials are ALWAYS appreciated! Positive begets positive, so please spread the word if you really like my shop and my items! :)
