I really do like broken china jewelry and I have several pieces, but these are really unique with the sterling bezel and the black grout. Very artsy indeed!
One of a kind upcycled adornments created from broken china plates and bordered with grout.
I am a self taught mosaic artisan who has been creating unique mosaic garden art for over fifteen years. Around 2005, after inheriting a box of jewelry findings from a great aunt, I began developing my mosaic jewelry line. Finishing the borders with cement grout was a natural choice for me because it is the same material I use on all my larger pieces, and it has now become a signature of my jewelry work. My one-of-a-kind pieces ranges from small delicate earrings and necklaces to cocktail rings and bold statement necklaces. As the china is repurposed, each pattern is limited and no two pieces are the same.
The desire to use recycled materials comes from my belief that our everyday items have a second life; the challenge, and fun, is in finding out what that is. I love the process of taking cracked, broken or cast off objects and giving them a new lease on life. From a young age, I observed my grandmother as she salvaged seemingly useless items which she always transformed into something wonderful. In keeping with her spirit I try challenge myself to be as creative as she was and create unexpected pieces out of everyday objects.
Owner, Maker, Designer
I am a self taught mosaic who started creating jewelry after inheriting a box of jewelry findings from a great aunt. My desire to use recycled china comes from my beleif that every days items have a second life, we just need to find out what that is.
My unique adornments are hand cut from a cracked, chipped or broken plate, the edges are ground smooth, then the ceramic is set onto the bezel. After the piece is set I choose the border color and then cement grout is individually applied to frame the piece and protect the edges of the china. My final steps are to seal the piece and set it in the jewelry findings.
