I am a ceramic artist living in Boston MA and making work at Mudflat Studios in Somerville MA where I am a Resident Artist. I graduated from Maine College of Art in 2007, with a degree in Ceramics. I use bisque molds as my primary means of making. I go to second hand stores, vintage shops, and yard sales to find pieces to pull molds off of. I find inspiration from Victorian Soft Paste Porcelain, Kitsch, desserts & pastries and Antique Metal Work.

I grew up just south of Boston in Braintree MA, went to college at Maine College of Art in Portland ME and now back living in Braintree MA.

I use low fire earthenware that has an amazing history for being used in Europe. I use it along with bisque molds that I find out in the world. Finding the pieces out in the world is an important part of my process, found in second hand shops, department stores and just laying around the house. I recreate them with my own twist and take on the piece. I love using the glaze not only serving as a function to make the piece functional, but also as an additive decoration feature. I have begun a new process of silk screening onto pieces that will pop up from time to time in my shop, using colored underglaze it gives the pieces a more layered feeling, as if the pieces had been covered with a wall paper or a special wrapping paper and was torn away. The uneven quality of the not perfected screening on my pieces help to back this notion up. Please visit arthurhalvorsen.com for more info.
